shit, one of my favorite records… luk, give it a listen, it really deserves it… adolescent pop a bit proto-smiths (without the pretentiousness of morrissey, meaning exclude the voice…) and a bit after-cure-three-imaginary-boys (but in pure teenage key, without dark themes)… oh my god, actually I don’t know if you’ll really like it, it’s pop-art but not experimental, simply elegant as hell and with a little guitar.

(I took a panic tangent ;D) I was saying... a piece like 'neon meat dream of a octafish' with its repeated alliterations sounds to my ears like a kind of fantastic shamanic rite... 'moonlight on vermont' is an engaging and powerful call to a lost pagan religiosity, capable of convincing through riffs, drums, and vocals... 'the blimp' and 'pena' are fantastically 'monstrous'... the blues for solo voice and recorder interruptions of 'the dust blows...' is inexplicably magnetic etc. etc. in short, I really like them, I can't even explain why well... it’s a work that oozes blues rurality throughout its duration (in short, it’s coherent and seems to have a 'concept' behind it...), aided by the Delta bluesman language, used to describe a Southern countryman of the States in a surreal key, a way to give each 'vision' a complexity and a 'richness of edges' equal to life (alongside music, surreal and cubist blues together).

well... apparently this album really divides opinions... psycho, for me, is not just some sort of essay on the deconstruction of blues and rock; it showcases what can be achieved if one dares to 'risk it' (despite all those who keep ranting about 'music being finished,' not realizing that there's so much – infinite – space outside the boxes they refuse to step out of, and in light of this, this album remains, even years later, alien and therefore indigestible)...

Damn, it’s a real kick in the balls, sure (especially at first…) but if you’re somehow fascinated by the ugly, this record is a MONUMENTAL work… Matt Groening (the guy from the Simpsons) said that when he first listened to it, he thought: ‘Christ, these guys aren’t even trying…’, in the sense that everything seems to be done half-assed… then slowly, the songs started to make sense to Groening and he began to consider the guys in this record (have you seen the photos? Beefheart didn’t even let them eat, they didn’t have any money) as geniuses…

I would like to say a few things, but this record deserves, first and foremost, a couple of minutes of silence...

Ah, thanks to the duplicate review (they're useful, after all) and the comment you made, I read yours, Nick... well, I wanted to talk about this album but I would have approached it in a completely different way, more 'speculative' (cold?). This is because lately I've started to 'see' it differently, this album, needing further exploration... instead, reading here I was reminded of the emotions and what connected me to R.E.M., it was beautiful.

I don't know... I'm not judging Zucchero (I like some of his songs, especially from this LP), rather I want to clarify that his (or even that of some rather ignorant-sensationalist journalists or who knows what...) stubborn flaunting of a phantom blues is out of place: out of curiosity, where do you hear this swing blues? in 'pippo'? in 'con le mani'? in 'hey man'? in 'non c'è più rispetto'? I repeat, I don't know... it's as much blues as Fausto Leali...

mondié, to clarify the concept that Zucchero has more or less nothing to do with the blues, I'm including a sample of Robert Johnson, (rightly or wrongly) the quintessential bluesman...
