we are at levels (the cover...) of the worst of Pavement, like 'terror twilight', which says it all...

However, I have to say, the cover really sucks... like, really badly...

Well, at first the album kind of 'stomached' me, nauseated me, all melodies and arrangements, without any major linguistic innovations... then it started to grow on me with each listen; what strikes me the most (at least for me) is Sufjan's lightness, the ability to be like a feather despite the orchestrations, his gaze on the world, touched (the term 'christian pop' makes sense beyond Stevens' beliefs...) by the grace of God and the ability to convey this feeling even in the more 'conflicting' pieces; an album, in some way, pure...

Well, fuck! Fuck! Fuck! I'm listening to it again now... Guy Picciotto: the man! I’m allowing myself, for once, to indulge in a somewhat emotionally nostalgic attitude and letting my thoughts wander back to when I saw them live for the first time in Rome (’95? ’96? Red Medicine era, anyway); I have a chipped tooth as a memento from that night, and I’m so happy to have it, it’s a nice memory...

Oh come on with this idea that today you can only plagiarize… I don’t agree at all, you know. Have you ever heard, for instance, of the Oneida? And if we’re talking about the Nineties, considering the historical distance and, therefore, the ability to observe things with greater detachment while having listened to so much music produced in those years, I could mention many bands that were definitely original (still bearing in mind the usual drivel, namely that, strictly speaking, no artist is entirely original; this obviously applies to the bitols, bicc' bois and the like - who, by the way, I really like…). saludos

independent I use (as is usually done) for artists not tied to major record labels... sure, sometimes the term is inappropriate, but it's used by convention; other times it's just right, given that there are also those who self-produce with their own record label... in any case, the gist of the previous discussion is that one does not necessarily have to submit to strong artistic pressures to create their music (of course, much depends on the audience one wants to reach, but it is what it is...). regards

Another issue: it's not at all certain that one's audience wants commercial records... many jazz artists (or even classical musicians) probably don’t even think about making 'commercial' records, especially since their audience doesn’t feel the need for them, and thus neither do their record labels; finally, there are also cases of bands-singers (I mention Radiohead, not being a die-hard fan, but it fits) who gain their artistic independence while still reaching a wide audience, continuing to sell even without ostentatious 'draws.'
