Yes Going for the One

Not to be pedantic, but there are a lot of inaccuracies; for example, Bill Bruford had already left during the Yessongs tour. Then, if you say that Going for the One is the best song on the album, I start to wonder if we’re talking about two different albums. It’s not that great of an album anyway; Relayer is on another level.

When it comes to technique, Frusciante is really poor. His strength lies in originality, at least in Mother's Milk - where Slovack's influence was still very strong - and in Blood Sugar Sex Magic, which in my opinion is their creative peak. Lately, he has flattened out a bit: while in Californication he still did some good things, in By The Way it’s unbearable, and in Stadium Arcadium it’s very, very flat and repetitive. I think there's not much to say about the quality of the Chad Smith-Flea duo: in my opinion, they represent an extraordinary rhythm section, although I tend to somewhat overrate Flea, whom I love, especially in relation to Smith, a fantastic drummer. The vocal lines of the last album are really awful, so Kiiedis is unbearable. Let’s just say they’re a band on the road to decline.

In my opinion, the debut album isn’t much to write home about; the next one, "Freaky Styly," is far better and is one of the best albums in their entire discography. Not by chance, it has a certain George Clinton in the production, and indeed, funk takes center stage. This one is still too raw and unrefined; the talent is starting to show—especially Flea's—but we’re still far from it. By the way, Slovak doesn’t play on this album, as he seems to have been involved in another project with Jack Irons, which then fell through. I think the guy playing here is a certain Cliff Martinez, unless I'm mixing him up with the drummer whose name I can’t recall.
As for Stadium Arcadium, I must say it’s really one of the worst things one could expect: the funny thing is there are some great funk tracks, some fantastic rhythmically speaking (with that rhythm section....) but it’s all ruined by cloying, whiny pop choruses, with the usual Frusciante backing vocals that have truly become tiresome.

The most beautiful live album in the history of music? But for God's sake!

I agree. Great review, not exactly a fundamental album in their incredible discography but valuable for the most hardcore fans of the band. Considering it's a collection of rejected tracks and those pulled from the archives, I must say it's not bad at all. Four, however, is a bit too much.
