Queen A Night at the Opera

I’m sorry to take away another record from Queen, but the first hint of thrash in rock history can be found in "Stroll on" by The Yardbirds, 1965; listen closely to the guitar! And anyway, there’s a difference between creating a genre and anticipating it. Queen anticipated it, ok, but they didn’t create it: thrash only emerges after the experiences of hardcore and NWOBHM, and even if Metallica were inspired by Queen, the major influences (the truly decisive ones) always come from elsewhere (the Misfits?) regardless of what Metallica themselves might have said in interviews (Hendrix claimed to be inspired by Chuck Berry, but his sound was much closer to Muddy Waters and had nothing of Berry). And besides, Metallica didn’t invent thrash.

Guys, I skimmed through a couple of comments and then I didn't go further because it wasn't worth it, anyway I wanted to say: Queen is an enjoyable band to listen to, with occasional artistic peaks quite high, but overall they are a secondary band, very overrated, and for every masterpiece they've produced, they've served us 40 anonymous songs and 200 awful ones. The Velvet Underground are legendary, but it’s not stuff for every ear, that’s clear.
PS Heroin is something profoundly above Queen's standards.

The prophilax are fine, it's the fans that are not!

Tedious.

I keep listening to this album: it feels like this guy has visited the future, and at certain points, it really seems ahead of its time. However, it’s often whiny and trivial. Yet overall, I tend to pay more attention to originality than to actual quality. But you have to tell me how he came up with those lyrics!

Of course the album has value: originality should be rewarded, no doubt! I just say that I can’t listen to it. For the rest, we are in the presence of a pioneer, so maximum respect.

I am a citizen of the world; the fact that it was a novelty in Italy does not seem very important to me. However, the banality does not lie in the underlying concept, but in the sounds, the melodic lines, and all these other technical factors. Frankly, it seemed to me like a huge nonsense; I even find it ridiculous at many points.
I swear there is no acidity in this response, nor arrogance or presumption, even though it may seem so.

I listened to it: to me, it seemed incredibly banal.
