They had to censor this one too! :-)

Yes Ole, beautiful quotes, I have one too: "A man said that in Italy under the Borgia there were war, terror, death, and blood, but they had Michelangelo, Leonardo, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, there was brotherly love and centuries of peace and democracy. And what did they have? Cuckoo clocks..." O. Welles.

Damn, just look at what comes out of the review of a film about a retired police officer... Well, I'll skip all the economic, political, and social considerations and respond to Azzo: Dear Azzo, I reiterate that I wrote a review and not a critical analysis. In a critical analysis, one must delve deeper into issues that can be comfortably omitted in a review to allow the reader the pleasure of discovering them on their own, especially when talking about a film like "La promessa." Does this mean you can't address them in a post? Certainly not, you can say whatever you want. I was only contesting your approach. Instead of saying, "Fusillo, I tear you apart," you could have said, as other users did, "Fusillo, now I’m adding some stuff you didn’t mention." Also, it doesn’t seem strictly necessary to know Greek tragedy to appreciate this film. Then, did I throw everything away? Well, looking at the logo of the site, it seems to me like the most suitable place for this kind of operation. :-)

@Saputello: Excuse me, you’re right, let me correct that: @bjorky and maledimiele: I care about you as much as I do about Saputello. And now we just need Iside’s jealous outburst... The downside of debaser is the lack of intimacy... It’s impossible to have a foot in two, three shoes... @Flinstone: oh look who it is again... No problem, make yourself at home, especially if there’s a noble cause at stake... @dreamwarrior: if you’re going to spam, at least avoid spamming with Nick Cave, it makes my knees weak... And thanks to all the other new guests...

Well, S4doll, at the beginning and the end, you see Jack Nicholson behaving in a certain way. HOW we get to that point doesn't seem predictable at all if you don't already know the story. Anyway, oh, all opinions are welcome here... @maledimiele: don’t mention it. :-)

Oh, look at all these nice people... I didn't expect this... So let's see: @Odradek: Where was this movie filmed? Well, I don't remember exactly, but I think the setting is perfect... A lovely snapshot of American provincial life that I found just right to serve as the backdrop for the story. Nicholson's acting is indeed unusual, but in the end, even if just for a few seconds... @Iside: Yes, Sean Penn is the ex Mr. Ciccone, but he's come a long way since then... @Saputello: I love you too. :-) @Bjorky and maledimiele: I care about you more than Saputello. :-) @Azzo: Hi, I'm doing great, how about you? First of all, I use a colloquial tone as much as I like. :-) Then, "You can't help but notice how Nicholson etc..." ---> Well, that's something you notice, and I'm not obliged to agree. Furthermore, you overestimate me if you think I know the difference between a mystery and a detective story, assuming there is a difference... Regarding the film analysis: mine is a review, not a critical analysis. If I were doing a critical analysis, I would need to talk to people like you who have seen the film and might discuss it. A review is mainly for those who haven't seen the film. And in a review of a movie like this, the fewer things revealed, the better. Generally speaking, I leave the critical analyses with all the references to the critics. But finally, excuse me, Greek tragedy? Oedipus Rex? Sophocles? Damn, and I thought "The Promise" was the sad story of a retired cop. :-) @S4doll: Predictable ending? Wow, you're a fortune-teller. :-) @Captain Howdy: You’re always calm, balanced, etc... Maybe a little too much... Let yourself go a bit... This is just a little review, not the Bible. :-) Hi everyone.

Well... I don't know... etc...

I only remember the soundtrack well, or rather just the songs by the Bee Gees... "More than a Woman" is nice... But I don't think this is John Travolta's debut... Before this, didn't he star in a horror film where Ralph supermaxieroe (William Kate?) takes Sissy Spacek to the prom, she becomes the laughingstock of the party and then gets revenge by taking everyone out with her superpowers? Damn, I can't remember the title of that movie...

@ajeje: I didn't know about that Italian film... Anyway, when I said "mythical," I was referring to the curiosity surrounding "London after midnight." Curiosity fueled by reviews and reports from that time and, of course, by Chaney's charismatic presence. Moreover, it seems that only a small portion of the films produced until the thirties has survived, so, do you know how many we've missed? As for Buckley's video, of course, it’s a pleasure...
