Finally, you didn't respond to the last of my points: simple rock music for the "masses." I pointed out to you that there isn't just that kind of rock, but many others, some of which were created by people like Frank Zappa, whose musical culture (theoretical and practical) is truly remarkable...

So, Pene, in the meantime I notice that throughout your diatribe (forgive the term, I'm a down-to-earth person...) you didn't mention a single musician... It would be appropriate since we're supposed to talk about music here... And you speak of it as an entity (Ah, art...) purely abstract and disconnected from physical or mathematical laws. I have news for you: centuries ago, music was considered a science just like physics and mathematics. And I'll tell you, sometimes I would almost miss those times... That music has a "Dionysian" aspect as you say, or "Apollonian" as I say, which relates to instinct or genius, I don't deny it. But to reach that empyrean you first have to learn solfeggio... W.A. Mozart, if he hadn't had dad Leopold to teach him technique, would he have become a musician? Maybe he would have become a brilliant pharmacist, who can say... My point about Freud wasn't so much directed at his studies, but at his scientific approach... I mean, that he didn’t deny the unconscious while explaining it seems obvious to me... You criticized Pretazzo for his overly theoretical approach, and to support your thesis you cited Freud, who had a much more theoretical approach. This is the contradiction. In fact, what does Freud have to do with the primordial music of "The Fall"? Do you need him to understand and appreciate them? It doesn't seem like it to me... So why cite him? And do you need to quote Schopenhauer to engage with me? With all these quotes and illustrious names, where does YOUR instinctuality end up?

Geenoo, I don’t understand why you feel involved by my comments. I’m not pretazzo's bodyguard... I was addressing the serious and angry critics, not those who just want to have a good laugh... Come on... :-)
Voto:
@Geenoo: I think differently. First of all, for me, votes don't mean much. Also, here no one is a master and everyone writes as they please... if they also write well, and pretazzo's way of writing doesn't seem that bad to me, even better. Of course, if someone speaks like a professor of Romance philology to say nonsense, that's a different story...

I believe that if someone expresses outrage over the "way" of reviewing and not about what is being said in a review, they are doing no good... I have read many criticisms of Pretazzo's style without citing, let alone refuting, a single statement of his. Criticize his musical theory and then get lost in a foolish theorization of how rock is reviewed, who rock is aimed at, and what the hell rock is... Pene, you talk about it as a "primordial" and "instinctive" music and then you quote Freud, who studied the origin of human instinctivity trying to explain, rationalize, and theorize it... Because Freud wasn’t Dr. Frankenstein; he was a real scientist... Don’t you think you are being contradictory? And no one, it seems, has claimed that the "spark of invention" is the prerogative of scientists, let alone priests... As it happens, you certainly are not the one to explain to us what rock is or isn’t... Also, defining a music that has had many incarnations, some of which are particularly hard to listen to (just think of Frank Zappa, for instance), reveals the same mental closure that you attribute to the author of this review. Finally, don’t be surprised if Pretazzo doesn’t want to engage in dialogue with you when you use expressions like "death to pretazzi"...

No Mopaga, we’re not on the same page... Elio beat you to it... Don’t you remember the nice satanic message recorded backwards on the CD "Elio samaga hukapan..." that went like this: "et a irugua itnat, icilef irugua itnat, et a irugua itnat et a irugua itnat"? By the way, for your information, try taking a look at this page: Messaggi subliminali e persuasione occulta It’s a page from the website of a congregation let’s say very Catholic, the San Giorgio cultural center; it’s full of samples of satanic or just subliminal messages taken from a bunch of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc. records... Can you believe these guys see subliminal messages even in "fatti mandare dalla mamma..." by Gianni Morandi... And I’ve said it all! Oaic.

Absolutely true, Zara, you wrote an excellent review. You know what? Even if we're few, why don't you share some samples? In particular, I would love to hear a bit of "Bachiana Brasileira No. 5" by Villa Lobos. I don’t know it, and the combination of Brazil and Bach intrigues me... Bye.

I don't think imagining the private squalor of Britney Spears and crafting a short story around it is the best way to do satire or to joke about it... In my opinion, the risk you run, dear Thynkforyourself, is becoming squalid yourself. And if the alternative to squalor is more squalor, one might as well prefer Britney Spears'... It's a shame, because you don't write badly...

Mr. Daud's last name and the term "Ghazal" remind me of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan... I'm in line for the samples. Great review Odradek.
