"Bach's compositions for organ or harpsichord in the context of the 1700s were virtuosic. If they had been presented in the early 1900s, they would have been technically easy." Clearly, you’ve never played them... Among other things, Bach is the classical composer most studied, plundered, or revisited by jazz musicians.

Now, I understand that everyone has off days. But I was making a general point. I wanted to highlight that it's not true that the technique was entirely with the prog groups and the incompetence was solely with punk. That's all. I didn’t mean to drag Genesis through the mud, who I actually like very much.

Well, if you ask me about the titles, I confess I don’t remember them, except for one. The video "Before the lamb". The ending of "Supper's ready": On "we have finally been freed to get back home". Here, on "home" Gabriel shouts, he doesn’t sing. In "Dancing with the moonlight night" at the beginning he struggles with his voice. In the same video, there are various inaccuracies in the performance. Those that I remember best are nevertheless those. If you visit the "Genesis museum" website, you can read various interviews from the time when Gabriel himself and the others admit that they started playing well live after the first American tour. So, from around 1974. But I could also mention a later live performance with some wrong notes. At the end of "The cinema ShoW" in "Second's out". In Banks’ solo, some arpeggios lose certain parts.

Indeed, this discussion is rather amusing. I’ll share my thoughts if you allow me. A punk band actually becomes more interesting (not just "interesting," I want to emphasize that) if there is technique and creativity involved. But I propose the opposite discussion: what about a prog band that has poor technique? Take Genesis, for example. Listen to some bootlegs from the early seventies: they hit some shocking wrong notes. Particularly, it may sound strange, Peter Gabriel... To avoid misunderstandings, I quite enjoy the Genesis albums up to "Wind and Wuthering"...

Well, I’ve seen him a couple of times in concert. The first time at the festivaletteratura and the second at the mantovamusicafestival. The first time I enjoyed his theatrical music. Oh my, there’s an abyss between him and Gaber... By the way, I believe “L'Italia non legge” was written specifically for that occasion. At the concert, I bought his album "Personaggi criminali." But on the album, his songs didn’t have the same impact on me. The second time I didn’t really like it much. And neither did I at Sanremo... Well, it seems clear that I won't be buying this album.

I have no idea psychopompe... Who is it?

But beatboy, why do you say that to me? I don't despise you, come on... At most, I despise this album...

@Andy66: what you mention is one of the many questions that the vision of those cartoons also raised in me. If we wanted to examine them all, we would never finish. :-) @Leonid: I don’t know, I don’t think I wrote a "melancholic" or "sentimental" review. Taking a step back for me means considering things as they are. For me, Goldrake, and I mentioned it in the review, was just a trend, with all the beauty and ugliness that this term brings with it. And the reference to Alfredino’s story wasn’t just a dramatic conclusion. In my opinion, it wasn't necessary, but I wanted to diffuse the revival effect that could have been created in some readers. I mean, if today life is a mess as you say, back then life was also a mess. This record, I’ll tell you, is the only thing I would save today from the "Goldrake" phenomenon simply because it was crafted, and exceptionally well, by good musicians. You might not like it, that's obvious. On the other hand, I don’t spend my days listening to it... So if you completely reject the whole matter, why let me know? You just needed to not open this page, ignore it, and move on. Come on, tell me the truth, deep down you like this record too. :-)

It won't have any of the punk crap that came out back then, but to me it sucks. No offense, Beatboy.
