Led Zeppelin Presence

Great Antonino, you know I could be your father, it would be an honor. I agree with what you write; I bought the CD because in "Achilles Last Stand" there’s that fantastic solo that got stuck in my head and won't go away. And yes, Bonzo was in great shape just like the good John Paul Jones; perhaps the one who seems out of place (but considering the tough times he was going through, it’s understandable) is Robert Plant, a bit throughout the entire album, except in "Nobody.." where he delivers a truly remarkable harp solo. Then I think that the fact there's no acoustic piece was intentional; the band wanted to show themselves raw and unfiltered, the combo of four tough guys. For the rest, I believe the entire discography of Led Zeppelin is an important chapter in music and should be considered as a whole, despite the ups and downs. If we love a writer, we love them not only for their best works, but if we are truly passionate about them, we crave every piece of their writing. Given the greatness of the entire works of Led Zeppelin, a lover of true rock should, in my opinion, do the same.

The more I listen to it, the more I appreciate it. In my opinion, it’s Mark’s most beautiful album.

Ah Dave Gilmour... you're a bit full of yourself, aren't you?

If we want to be completely honest, Bruce started making amazing records with Born to Run and up to Nebraska he gave his best. "Born in the USA" was starting to "give off vinegar," and the rest has been a recycling of better times. But even with ups and downs, he has always remained true to himself, without his songs being featured in a commercial... you know... for Vodafone. And even if he no longer had the inspiration of the past, his choices command respect, like his latest one, a kind of folk band that he has taken around the world in the name of an American musical tradition. And above all, I have never seen him at Festivalbar... or sporting branded T-shirts...
The Pink Floyd stopped at "The Wall." Neither Waters' solo work nor what remained of the Floyd managed to match the enormous output they had accomplished previously. The Beatles aren't even worth mentioning... nor can they be compared to Liga!

You’re right, Jim, I gladly accept your criticism. I’m really pleased that you’re discovering Rino; he seemed light-hearted and carefree, a bit like a clown, but he knew how to articulate thoughts that many others couldn’t express. Lately, I’ve been thinking about the "oil problem," the fact that Italy remains one of the countries almost completely dependent on black gold while other European partners are implementing policies on the use of natural energy resources. And then the song "Spandi Spendi Effendi" by Rino forcefully came to my mind. It seems like it was written just yesterday, to be dedicated to all those powerful Italians who continue to profit from oil thanks to the substantial costs of our electricity and gas bills. But alongside this song, I would also add "Aida," perhaps one of the most beautiful songs dedicated to our battered Italian peninsula. Rino will never die...

Dear, what can you do... there is a virtue that is becoming increasingly rare today, COHERENCE. Few Italian bands can rightly claim that name. I'd mention Marlene Kuntz, Afterhours, and the Gang, especially them who, to stay true to their ideas, were dropped by their record label. Clowns like Liga, who plays the rockstar at Festivalbar, I leave to you and to all those who prefer roughshodness, reheated soup, and "jumping on the bandwagon of the powerful to live better." I am a poor worker, proud to be one like the Gang who struggle but live decently and do a lot of concerts, even if not at Liga's prices.
You can survive on your own ideas if you believe in them wholeheartedly; wanting to become a phenomenon by all means is another story. De André and De Gregori certainly didn't have to act like clowns, yet they are still respected by many. They followed their own path and, above all, had the courage to experiment, to change while remaining true to themselves. Liga is only capable of handing us the same reheated recipe; every time he brings up the sob story about how he went through a tough time during Miss World with the death of his father and his separation—sure, but repeating it every single time? Clearly, he has nothing new to say now, still scraping the bottom of the barrel for inspiration, taking out poems he wrote in his youth and putting together another piece of junk book, while everyone rushes to buy it because it’s very cool to read Ligabue... In short, do whatever you like, but know that rock and Liga don't really go together... period.

Saltuario, let me tell you that you're amazing! From the review, it almost feels like you can hear the "breath" of the concert, that indescribable feeling that you experience; it's a bit like being in a land of wonders, for us who believe in that damn rock'n'roll despite life's many thorns. I got emotional in Bologna even though I’m not a die-hard fan and even though I, like many, thought they had mellowed a bit in recent times. They were there, on that stage, doing their honest job as rockers (I risk repeating myself; I've written the same thing elsewhere, but it never hurts to reiterate).

By the way, to those who saw the concert, didn't it seem to you that Stone Gossard was a bit too much in his own world? I mean, it's fine for someone on stage to be however they like, but he looked like he was there just doing a favor for the guys. But...
Anyway Tabba, I reiterate that your friends are among the few who were disappointed, maybe a little biased. Think what you want, I respect your point of view, but you can't really compare Mark Lanegan live with Pearl Jam. I saw him during the last tour; he may be magnetic and mysterious, but after a while, it gets old... thank goodness the backup singer was pretty to look at. But why am I even saying this, we are anachronistic and don’t understand real music.

..and then Tabba tell me what you find better in today's boxed present: reality shows, Paris Hilton's whims, the Azzurri anthem copied from the White Stripes, I think the pathetic one is you...

Well, I have to say that Henry had a good point, I wrote the review a bit in a hurry. And anyway, to all those who find my attachment to bands that "have already given" anachronistic, to those who mistake Vedder and the gang’s displays of affection for tired and clichéd demagoguery, I must say I don’t give a damn, because it's really painful to see valid groups that are born and die within the span of a record, or formations that sound like things we've already heard. Rock 'n' roll doesn't have pretenses; if the Stones after almost fifty years still do the same old routine, it's because they are doing their honest job as rockers, that's all, it's only rock 'n' roll but I like it. The same can be said for Pearl Jam; we must admit that their latest albums are not at the level of the early ones. I too realized when I bought "Yield" that from that point on they wouldn't be the same anymore, but I assure you that witnessing one of their concerts is something vibrant and exciting, that they are still in great shape. In short, it’s not like seeing Pete Townshend jumping at Live8, after which you think that the next day they'll have to prop him back up, damn, they just turned forty, calling them dinosaurs seems a bit premature...
