In short, for themselves, Soundgarden had nothing to say... "Down..." doesn't seem to me like a bad album at all... quite the opposite, it's very melancholic. As a Soundgarden fan, I don't disdain it at all... and then even after that, with his first solo album, Cornell certainly didn't do poorly... then the rest is debatable, okay, but up until then...

In my opinion, doc j, that’s also a common misconception. More than a decline in inspiration (many songs from the latest album are very beautiful and still superior to many albums of the same vein), it’s evident, especially in the lyrics, that we’ve reached a dead end.

"Black Hole Sun; the second one labeled by many as the most representative song of Soundgarden, even though, while being a nice song, it remains too commercial and sugary in my opinion." But can we stop writing such clichés? It's too easy to spout nonsense about Black Hole Sun... commercial... a word that means everything and nothing... the entire album is the most mainstream one, in the sense of being heavily promoted and reaching even the ears of those who had never heard of them before... but if only the level of releases were that of Superunknown or an album with singles like "Black Hole Sun"...
