Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

No, there isn't, Octavarius doesn't exist. It doesn't exist. There is the suffix Arium, if I'm not mistaken. And anyway, there are countless theories about the name; it's thought to refer to religious matter or something else, I wouldn't know, I need to go reread the fanzine!

You are right. 4 notes at 192 are not that prohibitive, especially if they are 4 notes in a chromatic scale. I mean: when I was in shape because it's been a while since I last played. And anyway, I'm talking about exercises and not proper pieces. Anyway, you are right...

Octavarium seems to be a combination of two Latin terms: "octavus" and "arium." "arium" would be more of a suffix to indicate a collection of things or a group of things that share the same theme: like "STELLARIO," "ERBARIO," etc...
SO oCTAVARIUM WOULD INDICATE A GROUP OF THINGS RELATED TO THE NUMBER 8. I don't know... like eighth album, eight songs, eight notes of an octave indeed.

And anyway, from my teacher, I heard that everyone has their own limit and it takes a lot of training to surpass it. For example, in the quartets, my limit, when I was in training, I remember was 192 on the metronome. Beyond that limit, I was never able to go (chromatic quartets, meaning 4 notes per string), while for the sextuples, I could manage around 176... beyond that limit, I can't go without studying really hard. But deep down, I prefer to hit a few notes that can actually convey something. Playing super fast is fun for me, but it's just a personal indulgence.

I believe it’s more a matter of consistency rather than just time: the quality of study is important as well. Begotti says that at least 6 hours are needed, but I think that with well-focused and precise exercises, one can reach really good levels. Then again, a certain natural predisposition always helps.

The beauty of the Dream Theater, whether you like it or not, is that they have been around for 20 years, while your hyper-technical idols, dear G, have only been active for three years, during which they have released three truly mediocre albums both in terms of genre and true composition. I believe it’s pointless to write solos that use all possible scales without actually going anywhere. And anyway, when it comes to speed, it gets even worse—go read the discussion about Michael Angelo.

Good job. Even though the review is brief, it is comprehensive and gives a fair idea of what awaits the listener. Good debut as a reviewer. Welcome to DeBaser.
