THE REVIEW

Power metal made in England.

Here are Dragonforce. A semi-unknown power group that has still managed to carve out its own space among the bands that more or less count. The entire project hangs from the monstrous hands of Herman Li. Monstrous because he is a master of the six and seven strings.

But only technically. Because Dragonforce perhaps suffers from a perennial lack of interesting ideas, except for the usual ear-splitting double bass and Herman Li machine-gunning solos every minute of the songs.
What characterizes Dragonforce? Practically nothing. Devoid of a real compositional ability, they base everything on a truly monstrous technique, and everything else is nothing but cliché and overused choruses, the usual rhythm riffs beyond belief, the usual melodic and/or angry verse. The song structure is quite the same: average duration of 6 minutes, at most 7, with practically half the track being just solos.

Furthermore, the formula seems the same across their three albums and every song. "through the fire and flames" is decent, but the second track mocks it. I'm talking about the endless "revolution deathsquad". The story certainly does not change with the rest of the album: "Storming the burning fields", "Operation ground & pound", "Body breakdown" are songs identical to each other, practically nothing changes. The album continues anonymously until the apotheosis of pandering: the final ballad "trail of broken hearts" is really bad and, in my opinion, very poorly made. No substance. No notable idea.

Power metal is something else, and I advise power fans to stay away from this album. Pointless.

Through Fire and Flames is aggressive, powerful riffs, high-pitched vocals that fit perfectly with the band’s power metal music.

Cry for Eternity is a truly emotion-filled and astonishing song, boasting the best guitar solos of the entire album.

Dragonforce is born, aka ludicrous speed in metal.

After a few minutes, Dragonforce tires me out: the riffs/solos are too similar and the excessive length of the songs does not play in their favor.
