Downward was at 5, fragile at 4, this is at 3 and a half... a bit less inspired, let's say.

Feel free to criticize the Black Album if you really don't like it, but leave the first three alone, as they are masterpieces. Before the release of Ride The Lightning, no human ear had ever heard anything as devastating as Fight Fire with Fire. If Kill 'Em All marked the birth of thrash, here Speed Metal is fully brought to light.

Reviews are not bad. The album is exceptional as it has allowed a lot of people (myself included) to get closer to the world of metal. This is where its greatness (and its importance.. all while acknowledging that the first 3 are unattainable masterpieces) lies.
