"I’m tired of being attacked by people like Cool just because I don't like a certain lifestyle." No, beat, I'm sorry, you said "rap isn't music," not that you don't like it... that's a different matter: this is a form of mental shut-off in reverse...

Given the excellent review that clash has written, I request that he be removed from the list of human cases, as he has proven to be mature enough not to be included. Therefore, I call upon the counter.

Lux, do you know Novembre? And Dark Lunacy? Come on, by now we're rooting like little plants in the most viewed reviews? First that one about the blue, now on this other one about the dt... :-)

I have to tell the truth (maybe I'm talking nonsense...) but the way the dt sing reminds me a bit of Stratovarius... They tried to copy them too! :-)

Porcupine Tree started as a Pink Floyd-inspired band, although in their early works, like "The Sky Moves...", they can be recognized for blending PINK FLOYD ATMOSPHERES WITH ELECTRONICS: this enhances their first albums, distinguishing them from those of Pink Floyd. Ah, in "The Sky Moves...", there’s also a lot of ambient: I would say it’s a mix of Pink Floydian atmospheres, ambient, and heavy, almost pounding electronics. But they have touched extremely high artistic peaks, so infused with personality, originality, and style that the dt seli are left behind... For example: every album is different: in "Lightbulb Sun," they managed to blend vocal pop rock that at times evokes the Beatles with psychedelia and, in many aspects, electric guitar. Does that seem like little to you?! And the latest, "Deadwing," is a true masterpiece: a total genre shift, a turn towards progressive metal. They manage to make even progressive (a rather schematic genre, stagnant and represented by less original bands) feel new, fresh, original... No, Porcupine Tree can be considered artists with a musical evolution, while the dt always swim in the same waters, copying a bit from everyone. Yes, lux, you will tell me that rock is dead and blah blah blah and that there’s no more inventiveness, but damn, these guys are really hitting rock bottom. ORIGINALITY ZERO!

I took Deep Purple as an example, lux, they made a big mess... And then you should ask them why they redid MADE IN JAPAN by Deep Purple, since the Deep ones are heavy and they are not. This is what I meant: they seem like exhibitionists running all over the place to redo and imitate the greats of history, without having time to dedicate to themselves and their music. Trying to put WAY TOO MUCH of everything into their music, which makes it pompous, nauseating, it's simply WAY TOO MUCH! Ah, sorry if I write like an idiot, but I have some broken keys on my keyboard and it's hard for me to connect the thoughts properly! :)

BeatBoy, I agree with you, I don't like rap either, but MUSIC is SUBJECTIVE: maybe a guitar riff doesn’t mean anything to someone but a rap song moves them… What kind of argument is that?! We could say the same about growling vocals: some people like it, some find it communicates emotions, and others don’t like it at all, seeing it only as a pointless outburst of violence...

The difference between the music of Deep Purple and that of DT is that DT'S ALBUMS ARE ALL THE SAME, CHARACTERIZED BY THE SAME TECHNIQUE (OBVIOUSLY COPIED FROM DP) BORING AND REPETITIVE, TEDIOUS. They continue with their boring music, stretching the pieces to infinity, stuffing them with metal and heavy elements, always repeating the same old, clichéd riffs… When you listen to a DT piece, you can't recognize them: they are almost indistinguishable from any other band. And don't say they convey passion, because if they convey passion, you have serious musical/emotional issues :D! They are cold, impersonal (just as I mentioned, they sound like Deep Purple sung by a cover band and filled with Pink Floydian and metal elements): it sounds like music of the future, where THE ONLY GOAL is TO PUT ON TECHNICAL SHOWS OF BRAVURA, without enriching the musical landscape in any way… In their music, there’s no echo or detail or technique or riff that suggests ā€œah, these are DT, I can tell by how they sound!ā€ THEY REMIND OF EVERYONE WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING, THEY SOUND LIKE EVERYONE AND NO ONE, THEY ARE ANONYMOUS BUT ALREADY HEARD… They lack personality, they lack pathos, they lack character…
