I completely agree with you, Anatas, this is the worst they've managed to produce along with the Spaghetti Incident. Everything here is underwhelming, there isn't a single song that I found pleasing. Whether they are ballads, all sounding like something I've heard before, or more "powerful" tracks, in my opinion tainted by a horrible sound and ineffective riffs, this album fails to excite; on the contrary, it leaves quite a bit to be desired. Bleah!

Perhaps one of the only three reviews of this album in which the reviewer tried to provide an objective and impartial analysis, clearly justifying their choices. Nonetheless, I cannot appreciate the album; on the contrary, I find it lacking in everything: poor in arrangements, in the use of keyboards and drums, in the guitar sounds, in Axl's vocals, even though he still has a powerful voice. Perhaps the only striking feature of the album is this last point. Which is really not much for a lengthy album like Chinese Democracy.

There's something rotten not only in Denmark, but also in the record... bleh, what a mess. Even the review isn't that great.

I wouldn’t call Axl the one true leader, especially since he only became that when he sent everyone else away... however, I find it to be a rather mediocre album, one that surely won't make history.

I repeat, an enthusiastic review, track by track justified by the imminent release of the album (at the time). Disappointing album nonetheless, totally changed sound, strange guitar effects, weak vocals, although Axl's voice is still at high levels. A bad album.

It's one of those albums that came out with at least six different covers, each uglier than the last, just like the contents, which are of terrible quality. You're right, they are no longer the Guns; they died after Use Your Illusion, becoming one of the most overrated bands in history. Chinese Democracy seems to be a title chosen more to speculate on the events in Tibet/Beijing Olympics 2008 and sell more than for any real humanitarian interest from Axl Rose (I won’t say "and company" because he doesn’t have any; they are all just his subordinates). A great example of a review with amusing irony.
