Alcatrazz feat.Yngwie J.Malmsteen Live Sentence
Voto:
Honestly, I have no doubt about Malmsteen's ego, about the fact that he has become increasingly self-centered, repetitive, and cloying over the years. Even I, who consider myself a big fan of his, have not defended him for years and actually criticize him openly. But I also want to be objective, which is why I wanted to write this review, to acknowledge a merit he had at the beginning that no clone, no matter how skilled and musically prepared, will ever be able to match. The fact that he is an unpleasant person, egotistical, and has ruined himself with his own hands is incredibly true.

Yes, but this is exactly what I disagree with. In my opinion, compared to the first Malmsteen (pre-accident period 1987), no clone is technically superior, let alone at a compositional level. However, everyone is entitled to their own legitimate opinions. On this point, we totally diverge; on everything else, I fully support your analysis. Bye!

Thank you friends for your comments. Dreamwarrior, I completely agree with your initial premise, but I don't feel like sharing the final part. The Malmsteen playing here is absolutely incomparable to Joe Stump and C. No clone can even come close. As for the fact that he has remained trapped in his patterns, I fully agree, and I mentioned it in the review. Aniel, I really recommend this CD to you; you will find, first and foremost, a great band and then a Malmsteen that is truly worth listening to!! Mandroker, you are right, that cover was in turn a cover made by Rainbow (I omitted to mention it!), and I'm happy to correct myself!

This G3 is a simple and clear business operation, really disappointing. Your review is definitely good!

I would say that there is almost unanimous consensus on Hendrix at the top of the rankings; regarding the rest, every judgment is subjective. It might be fairer to create rankings by historical eras, also to better understand which parameters we want to consider (technique, feeling, creativity, historical importance, etc.).

It's difficult to make a ranking without risking criticism. For example, compared to yours, I would put Malmsteen (obviously first, from the 1984-86 era) among the top spots because I particularly like him. Then I think Blackmore, for his skill and historical significance, is certainly not inferior to Page; an 8th place after Slash seems frankly out of place. I completely agree on Rhoads, whom I adore, and Hendrix, for his historical importance, deserves first place in my opinion.

Indeed, Momo Corse, I wanted to say that I agree with you on this, if only we could go back to using the technique aimed at music instead of the other way around. The 70s, after all, produced great masterpieces precisely because of this principle.

Of course, they are both guitarists, but apart from that they have absolutely nothing in common, neither on a musical level nor on a stylistic one, not to mention the technical aspect. Comparing them is absurd, just like it is absurd to draw a parallel between grunge and hair metal; where does it lead? Since there are no standards for comparison, it comes down to personal taste, and everyone has their own legitimate preferences. I can agree with you that Malmsteen's music today is quite questionable and self-indulgent, that’s true, but it’s equally true that his early works are great within the genre and are not merely displays of technique. Just listen to "Icarus Dream Suite" from "Rising Force" or "Crying" from "Trilogy" (just to give a couple of examples) to realize this.
