I don't agree: the common thread in the comparison made by the reviewer is that of paranoia and alienation. That these are different musical stories is another matter. This is a discussion forum, so it's inevitable that comparisons are made as starting points for conversations. Young was not only the bard of the West Coast, rural life, or the Indians, as many would like to believe. He delved into the darker aspects of society and humanity, just as Morrison and Reed did. Finally, someone who highlights the greatness of a piece like "Last Trip to Tulsa."

Great job, this album always gives me chills. Let's hope that the new Portishead album really comes out....

Well, from my username it’s clear that Pocahontas is a piece I love very much. What else is there to add? Great job mentioning her and putting her in the right perspective.

how much I love this album, the first 4 tracks are dreamlike. "O am a child" in particular is spine-tingling, with that line "What is the colour when black is burned?". Great Neil

It's probably not the Neil I prefer, it's all too fuckin' loud. I prefer Live Rust, with the spine-tingling acoustic first half. That said, back in the day Neil was influenced by the Sonic Youth generation, and he made this album to prove he was always ahead of everyone else.

I agree that Requiem deserved a mention; it's such an atypical piece in Neil's vast body of work! Great writing nonetheless.

Everything is very beautiful, congratulations. Neil's pieces in particular are fabulous, even though you should have remembered that the pieces made with Nitzsche were conceived during a time when Neil had temporarily left the group. They are very detached from the rest of the album, and it can be said that this was the beginning of Neil Young as a solo artist. Rock and roll woman, then, is obviously one of my all-time favorite songs!

Zigghio, this review is fabulous. In just a few words, you’ve summarized the content of the album, Neil's situation during that time, and the historical context. Truly impressive!

Everyone has their opinions: I am viscerally in love with "the last trip to tulsa," as it presents a terrifying expressive richness from a lyrical point of view—one could write a separate review just to describe it. "Heroin" and "The end" are two legendary pieces because of the impact they've had, but lyrically they don't hold the same polysemy as "Tulsa." Certainly, "ambulance blues" surpasses them, but that is a pinnacle of the entire rock output, not just of Young's work. After all, "tulsa" and "ambulance blues" are complementary. Tulsa represents youthful paranoia, while Ambulance embodies the disenchantment of maturity. And we could also consider "The old homestead" in Neil's repertoire...
