JoP, ECM... I can't wait to hear this Barraquè, unknown to me so far. Splendid review, balancing extreme sensitivity and descriptive poetry. Great also the link to the Orfeo page on the web, a traditional goldmine of information, especially on contemporary music.

I saw them live in a decidedly "wintery" setting (January, inside a smoky and charming little club), but the impression I got is the same as what you describe: a playful, irreverent, fresh, and bewildering jazz that combines Rava's innate sense of melody with the imaginative and irreverent piano playing of the talented and gifted Bollani. I don’t have this Montreal Diary, but I will definitely take care of that. Well done, excellent and engaging review.
