Bitch Magnet Umber
Voto:
Beautiful beautiful beautiful, more than Squirrel Bait. Just a little clarification: Fugazi debuted in '88 with two EPs, so a year before Umber (and probably Bitch Magnet listened to them).

I've never heard of them before, yet they seem like a huge group! I read the review because from the title I thought it was related to krautrock (which I love), but I think I was mistaken. Nice review, but to understand something about this group I guess I'll have to go read the others.

Cope wrote "krautrocksampler," which is super cool. I don't know the album.

For those of you who have more than 40 albums, what do you recommend to dive deeper into Zappa? (I only have Freak Out).
Frank Zappa Absolutely Free

Nice review, perhaps a bit too descriptive/detail-oriented. I know little about Zappa (I almost know Freak Out by heart and have listened to a few other albums, but I can't remember which ones) also because his impressive discography and eclecticism are a bit daunting; I know people who have more than 40 of his albums!
Squirrel Bait Squirrel Bait E.P.

I listened to it (also Skag Heaven) and I have to say it’s beautiful (not as much as the Huskers, though). I also listened to Bitch Magnet (Grubbs' band after Squirrel Bait) and liked them even more, truly fantastic. Umber (1989) is the true bridge between Zen Arcade and Spiderland.

In fact, this album is not so inaccessible; and I forgot to mention that it’s a lot of fun, you just need to give it a little attention. The Vampire Rodents have been on my list of bands to listen to for a long time; sooner or later I’ll get around to it.

Damn Sanjuro, you could have just reviewed the first EP, and they would have gotten a nice 5 :). Blind Eyes Sees All? Great suggestion, I'll try to get it (download it). Now we need two nice reviews on Rembrandt Pussyhorse and Locust Abortion Technician; maybe they don’t deserve a 5, but I’d give them one anyway, just to balance things out. I already thought about writing the review for Locust but I’m lacking inspiration.

Ah, a thought just crossed my mind: the comparison with Beefheart is by no means out of place; the Butthole Surfers are very much connected to him. I would even say that their attitude is closer to the '60s freaks rather than to hardcore or psychedelia. The difference is that I find it incredibly difficult to listen to Beefheart, while it's always a pleasure to put on a CD by the Surfers. X Randolph Chandler: why can't it be compared to Zen Arcade? The two albums were released a year apart and are both influenced by the hardcore scene; moreover, both Hüsker Dü and the Butthole Surfers had their peak period between '83 and '87. Even though they have completely different spirits, they were great in the same measure.
