Well, in its own way, "heartbeat city" is a nice album. The title track is very good, as well as "drive," "I refuse," "hello again," "strangers eyes." They seem to have forgotten something in the best...

Regarding the MTV award, mmmm, honestly I don't know what to think. It's somewhere between a belated recognition or a "decency syndrome" from MTV, almost a consolation prize (Fletcher was indeed QUITE IRONIC when he thanked them "for airing the videos of the last 20 years"... I think he was referring to the somewhat recycled collage of "martyr", since it almost contains all of them!!! ;) ) or an unmistakable sign that a) they have gained media exposure among the younger generation thanks to a blatant "commercialization" of certain choices b) they've captured the third or fourth generation, and they won't want to let go; given the average ratings of the new target, in 2011 I will look VERY CAREFULLY for samples online before buying their new album blindly like I used to do.

Well... maybe until 1988. I would say that excellent tours were the World Violation 1990 and the Devotional 1993. I understand they don't sound great (more today, but they don't convince me) and on the other hand, they are certainly not technical monsters, but many live versions gain charm (Wilder, how we miss you! he REALLY PLAYED) precisely because they highlight some samples that might have been "overlooked" in the studio. The "cut and paste" with the live tracks of Mr. Wilder oscillates charmfully between studio and remix (handled by them, not the CRAP that came out after 1998). And then their music is (was) electronic, certain tracks MUST be played with a drum machine. I honestly don’t find all this coldness (well, I’m biased), but certainly Gahan knows how to charm the crowd like few others ;)))
