Tom Waits The Black Rider
Voto:
Well, I actually like this quite a bit. Maybe it's a bit naive as a piece of work, but that's exactly why I like it, I must say. The rating would be 4.5, rounded up to 5. The review seems a bit cold and superficial to me.

Never heard these...
Diana Krall The Look Of Love
Voto:
You're right, fat, this is a nice singer, she even has a nice voice and technique, but the music isn't that great. I think she's also Elvis Costello's wife, or am I wrong?
Charles Mingus The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady
Voto:
Indeed, even the Pithecanthropus deserves quite a bit... Has anyone listened to "Titujana Moods" (I'm not sure about the spelling)? Someone also told me it’s magnificent, but I've never found it in record stores; maybe it’s out of print.
Antonio Carlos Jobim The Composer Of "Desafinado" Plays

But Poletti, if you give this a 2, it's definitive proof that you’re deaf.
John Zorn Filmworks 13: Invitation to a Suicide
Voto:
In fact, I believe that Tzadik is practically a loss-making business; it publishes a number of records not only by Zorn and famous people but also by unknown individuals and sometimes truly bizarre ones who probably wouldn't be able to release their albums on other labels. It seems that they do things more out of passion than for profit, and that is something to admire regardless, as it is quite rare in the landscape of the music industry.
Charles Mingus The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady
Voto:
In fact, this and "ah um" are my favorites by Mingus. Blood-pumping, rough-and-tumble, and vital music. "suites for ballet, yes, but a dance inside a smoky tavern with rubber walls and carpeted floors to jump on" really captures the atmosphere of the album, indeed. A good review, although a bit short.
John Zorn Filmworks 13: Invitation to a Suicide
Voto:
I agree with you, gabbox. Zorn also works with a lot of great musicians like Ribot, Feldman, Baptista, Frisell, just to name a few, and the credit goes to them too. I think this one is one of the masterpieces of the series. I also recommend, in particular, if you don't already know it, number 14, "Hiding and seeking." Goodbye.
Antonio Carlos Jobim The Composer Of "Desafinado" Plays
Voto:
An album that is nothing short of essential, along with "Wave," which is roughly on the same wavelength (instrumental bossa). One of Jobim's most spectacular virtues is, in my opinion, his ability to combine quality with an easy-listening approach; this will appeal to everyone.
Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach Painted From Memory
Voto:
I wasn't thrilled about it either, but maybe I just didn't listen to it enough.
