Baudelaire, whom I stopped reading a long time ago. Therefore, I doubt this could spark any interest in me.

Nothing personal, but this review is really not great. As for the album, there’s absolutely nothing to throw away: the "fanfaronate" are well made and fun (and their apparent stupidity is intentional; just look at how much Stipe enjoys singing them in the 1989 Tourfilm). The acoustic tracks are excellent and intense (by the way, one of these is "Hairshirt," not "Hairshit" :-)), but the best songs, in my opinion, are "World Leader Pretend" and the gloomy "I Remember California." If I had to rank it, I would place it among the top 5.

Great review. Modest album, but it seems there’s also something worth saving here.

Interesting and very professional review. Nothing to add about the record.

A great album, tougher than the previous ones. "Fall On Me," "Cuyahoga," and "Swan Swan H" are among their best tracks from the I.R.S. period (1982-1987).

Heard something back then, amidst that tasteless jam that Radio Dimensione Suono passes off as music. I didn’t have any particularly strong impressions, except for finding myself confronted by mediocre talents blessed with monumental arrogance and distastefulness.

Here you can feel the group's difficulties following Bill Berry's departure, which I believe they faced with more than dignity. At least 4-5 really good tracks: in addition to the mentioned "Lotus" and "At My Most Beautiful," I would add "Daysleeper," "Diminished," and "Why Not Smile." However, it is indeed too long, and undoubtedly much weaker compared to the previous albums.

"A healthy way to overcome depression, which doesn't involve drinking, smoking, using drugs, or letting oneself go, exists: music!" I agree: with the right record, you feel less alone.
