Beautiful review. Still, this Calypsos hasn't convinced me. As you say, the Prince now does as he pleases, and your thesis oozes from every trace of the album: not that the songs are bad, but everything sounds insincere, self-congratulatory. Like: "I'm de Gregori, and every chord I play is art regardless, so the album is good, end of story!"... I miss the gem that stands out among the other tracks; Calypsos gives me the impression of a flat record, made up of melodies already used and not even too rearranged or customized. Lacking in significant suggestions. Repeated listens might change my mind.

Come on, primiballi, admit that the record is so beautiful that this time the comparison with Waits takes a TOTAL back seat! I now consider it an absolute masterpiece, but I know that with more listens, my judgment will become even more generous... I like the comparison with creuza de ma... :)
We're not yet at the levels of NORD SUD OVEST EST, but for a handicapped person, it's more than good enough... (Needless to say, I'm NOT joking :-))

Better not to ever look at the top... but right now, it’s EVERYWHERE PROTECT. I have to say that amidst all that crap, it shines almost like six stars!!! :-)
