lacking "coherence"? what a thing to read... :-D we are talking about art, not engineering. what does the word "coherence" even mean? it makes no sense at all. However, trying to read between the lines of your discourse, to say that VV&nico is not an album uniformly directed towards a certain type of expression is entirely false. Just listen to it. Moreover, it has nothing particularly obscure or cerebral; it seems absurd to me (assuming I read between the lines correctly) to accuse it of lacking "organizational instinct." But then, what does "organizational instinct" even mean? it's an oxymoron, a contradiction. how can instinct organize? I find your analysis decidedly confused and, forgive me, a bit far-fetched. Furthermore (still attempting to read between the lines), if this organizational instinct means to harness (superficial) "psychedelic" intuitions within the framework of the most typical and predictable rock'n'roll tune... well, with all due respect, that's easy for anyone to do. :-)

senior86, I don't understand the discussion. Even Peppino di Capri is a fact, or Cristina d'Avena, they're all there lovely on cassette and maybe even on vinyl. It seems to me that, with all the objectivity possible, it's really enough to do 2+2. It's really a matter of dates: in '67, as many have already said (it's a purely numerical issue, therefore objective), VV&nico, Piper (and that would already be enough), We are ever so clean, Smiley smile were released, the year before Fifth dimension had come out, the Warlocks had already been around for at least a year and a half. I mean, you just need to do two plus two: there are much more important and creative things than this record. Period. And speaking of contemporaries, it's very difficult if not impossible to believe that Sgt. Pepper influenced all the records I've mentioned. From this, the only conclusion I can reach is that certain statements are motivated by various types of lobotomization :-) Because it really takes very little to realize the reality.

Blackdog no, they really suck :-D ..gianmarco mizzica points down eh.. I would say "if only they were all like Slint" or "if only they were all like My Bloody Valentine" ..but all like these.. damn, then it's really true that you can't escape the '80s alive :-D

great review! they've always been a bit too "German" for my tastes (I mean in a musical sense) but maximum respect. Dude, I'm still waiting for a comment eh :-D

Sure! And what about it? If the music was great, it was great :-D ..I agree with Trickykid, but be careful. The lobotomized by years and years of television addiction might say you're being snobbish for that! ;-D

In fact, the JDs are one among many (as seems to be established for you too). And the Italian people are absolutely right. This is precisely why the Interpol are mediocre individuals placed in a mediocre time :-)

"the usual snobbery of those who want to rebel against history..." :-D nice one! I didn't know that television and gossip (like Rolling Stone, for instance) were the ones making history. I'll inform myself better ;-)

Without delving into the content (by now it would be trivial, and I don’t want to give you satisfaction, since yours is a blatant provocation), that "Bible" tone is really foolish. What was the need for it? ..is the Beatles fan becoming more and more complex? (with respect to all those who, nonetheless, wouldn’t fall for such nonsense)

blackdog, the big difference lies precisely in the fact that Grunge (in its best moments) is not a reworking of form, but of expressiveness, of substance. Mudhoney have literally nothing different formally from any '60s garage band, yet you would never misunderstand them because you feel that their intent is completely rooted in their time. You sense that they "tell" something different. You feel that the music oozes with totally different concerns. That's where the personality lies. Not in the arpeggio instead of the synth. What do Interpol express? What do they tell? What do they represent?
