Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

There are some cool things out there.. El-Ghor is a nice band from Naples.. and from the same label, Seahorse, we also have Blessed Child Opera who are really good. Settlefish bored me after two listens but they are definitely better than what is commonly passed off as Indie nowadays.. I mean, overall it’s not like we’re jumping for joy, but compared to what has been out in recent years, Italy is still better than many other places.

Stoney, and you come to tell me that you don't have enough linguistic competence and skill? :-D ..you've said some really interesting and very clear things.. I’ve come to understand that at a certain point, it’s better to lighten the mood. Otherwise, you end up giving too much importance to a proposal (in my opinion, of course) that is, in fact, inconsistent. That said, I believe you've hit the nail on the head not just about the DTs, but about this whole decade and not just in music. It’s one of the terrible drifts of post-modernity: emptiness, the useless, everything being the same as everything else, subculture, as you put it.. it’s no coincidence that revivalism and superficiality reign in today’s rock.. nonetheless, by now it's Italy that needs to be watched more closely than "sacred" countries like the UK, which hasn’t produced even one decent new band in 15 years. In Italy, the independent scene is maturing, and there's much greater awareness, quality, and above all, intellectual honesty than in other places.

ihihihi.. here we go again.. who knows this might be the start of a new couple of hundred comments :-D apart from that, to go back to the comment above, as lux rightly pointed out, Michael Jackson isn’t exactly a daily listen.. as usual, the truth has a thousand faces.. See you soon!

Oh thanks Stoney :-D in the end I enjoy writing about music, so there was no "mission" behind it, but rather an attempt (almost 4 years ago now) to provide another perspective and have some fun discussing the topic at hand.. then it's true, I've always responded with real arguments and not by making it ridiculous. It's just that I love to ponder about music :-D ..see you soon and thanks, take care!

:-D well, I don't know if I want to seem detached, but you definitely entertain me, that's for sure. It's been a while since I had a good discussion with the usual anonymous fool. But let's get to the point: of course, this film has communicated a lot to you and others. Too bad I have to take your word for it, since you haven't spent half a line on the film. Well, who knows, maybe discussing it is too difficult; so far, you've wasted time on truly deep and sharp concepts, especially the nonsense about Beethoven hehehehahah :-D ..anyway, don't worry, for all your "excellent" arguments, I keep repeating, one thing is certain from our discussion: appreciating Inland Empire and intelligence definitely don't go hand in hand.. Until next time!

ahi ahi ahi, you continue undeterred to not understand a damn thing... should I also play the hyper guy? come on, you've been waiting since you intervened for a bit of healthy humiliation, it's obvious that it takes sadism to appreciate your spastic impulsiveness inland empire ehehehe :-D ..point one: I say, you must be evidently even more idiotic than you already seemed abundantly.. but what the hell does Beethoven have to do with this now? damn it, have you even ever heard him? I swear I hope not, otherwise nothing justifies the enormous bullshit just read. Recent works or not, Beethoven has always been light-years away from the ramblings of Inland Empire, but for heaven's sake, what the hell does it have to do with it? I mean, if it's a shitty comparison for a shitty comparison, you could have brought up Schoenberg and shown a bit more relevance, but reading your horrible nonsense only leads one to believe more and more in your foolishness :-D point two: art is not, first of all, about communicability. Thank you very much, and who said otherwise? Thank goodness art is expression (what a trite statement..) but expression implies the concept of communication (as long as one isn't just artists for themselves, which I hope you have at least the minimal IQ not to consider among the possibilities), communication implies the concept that art also means being able to communicate. Because, even if it's perhaps a concept too difficult for intellectual jerks like you, it's much easier to trample freely on experiments or pseudo-experiments without any real formal wrapper than, humbly (hence the concept is indeed important, even if you took the meaning of the word "humility" literally without obviously understanding a damn thing), managing to innovate while primarily adhering to, and then changing it even to the point of distorting it, a canon that as a form of cultural tradition has nonetheless, in any case, its meaning. It’s a bit like the difference between innovation and provocation, but ahi ahi, perhaps we’ve gone a bit too far, better to stop here for today, otherwise it becomes too difficult for you :-D read carefully, please, before going back to masturbate eheheh :-D

but wurlitzer and moog already had it back then, so all the difference lies in the vocoder and the electronic drums? meh meh, the premise, as much as it was intended, is a bit sad. and the last two lines where you talk about the record say little or nothing.

Oh dear, even 4 comments?? You really took it to heart :-D ..anyway, do you see that you haven't understood anything? My perspective is that of someone who believes that art should also embrace humility as a principle; in other words, to conceive communication as a fundamental element and not as an afterthought; otherwise, you're just speaking to the wind, saying nothing, risking elitism, not to mention snobbery. I don't feel superior at all, and I certainly don't presume to say that the limitations of this film lie in intrinsically aesthetic factors, precisely because its praised labyrinthine nature is a matter that could be discussed by a Ghezzi, not by me, who is simply a passionate admirer. My point is much more basic, but you don’t seem to be able or willing to contemplate it at all. Moreover, you continue to ramble on with insults and little more, which once again suggests that intelligence doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with appreciating Inland Empire hehehehe :-D

Well, probably yours.. but don't take it too hard, come on, there's always Inland Empire by Lynch to drool over so you can say "I'm smart" ahahahaeheh :-D
