The author wants to preface that this review is historically ignorant and full of prejudices on purpose. Enjoy the reading.
The hippies are the worst stain on the tablecloth of twentieth-century history, in second place, far behind, we find Nazism; World War II is only in twenty-seventh place, re-evaluated for having inspired the masterpiece film "Tora! Tora! Tora!"
Hippies were truly disgusting, they didn't wash, had unworthy moral conduct, and wore unspeakable t-shirts, that is, if they dressed at all, of course.
And do we want to talk about hippie music? A deadly bore, a collection of junk listenable only while tripping, chaos and colored slobber (yes, those psychedelic backgrounds from that '70s show), pacifist anthems from boring people, people excluded from the army for phallic insufficiency that vent their smallness by complaining about a war that "you know, it's not good", "don't make war, play morra" (they didn't make love because everyone knew about their smallness)...
Fortunately, today’s hippies have evolved, they roam the earth in Volkswagen industrial vans, use deodorant and have bought many electronic instruments: Wurlitzer, vocoder, moog, electronic drums, and many other interesting gadgets; and this is the case of Black Moth Super Rainbow, 5 kids who look awkward but smell nice and are hippies only in spirit.
Theirs is music for hallucinogenic trips, which should replace in the collective imagination the soundtrack of all "Summer of Love" documentaries and various atrocities; the nice thing about this album is that it could have easily been recorded by a hippie commune 40 years ago, if only they had found a real job, managing to scrape together some money to buy real instruments.
In short, their music can be represented by Air and Boards of Canada engaged in sniffing strawberry Mentos to get high all afternoon, then calmly returning to their wives, keyboards and vocoders meet bass and drums a bit real and a bit fake, useless and naturist lyrics, the classic hippie flute, the classic out-of-tune hippie guitar, all in songs of no more than three minutes plus something...
One of the best things about the Summer of Loaf 2007.
