Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

I’m not just any group; I’m a mediocre group. The best musicians in the world??!! Bass: Les Claypool; guitar: Tom Morello, Larry Lalonde, Robert Fripp, Guy Picciotto; drums: Jimmy Chamberlin, Phil Collins, Jack Irons, Maureen Tucker; keyboards: Keith Emerson; these are SOME of the musicians worthy of being called among the best in the world (only in the Rock field), with a personality ENORMOUSLY more developed than that of the musicians of Dream!!

Ah Ah, this is good.. U2 live are as anonymous as you can expect from a rock concert.. R.E.M. have immensely more drive and personality...

Death penalty?! AH AH that's a good one. No, metalhead, maybe you don’t quite understand that every song has an arrangement.. There is no piece that doesn’t have one; you can interpret the arrangement as you wish, but every piece has it. By saying that every instrumental score is the main protagonist of the piece, you’ve answered yourself: this is indeed a BIG, HUGE handicap. Every instrument, when it plays FOR a piece, must conform to the piece itself, not be THE piece, otherwise it doesn't even make sense to call it a musical piece, but just a nonsensical jumble of technical virtuosity (which unfortunately the Dream Theater often flirt with!). So their pieces are far from perfect.. In any case, you can tell just by the total lack of ORIGINALITY that comes through their music, the concept of originality, at least for me, is fundamental for music as for any other form of art..

I repeat that I have seen Muse live, but they told me the right thing. Sigur Rós are not English but Icelandic; I know them very well, I’ve seen them live too and I liked them a lot; they are definitely in line with Radiohead: they have a much more extended approach to song structure, and from a sonic perspective, they are much closer to post-rock sounds akin to bands like Mogwai, and they are much more influenced by classical music (listen to "Olsen Olsen"), and the intent of their songs is distinctly different from that of Radiohead: Sigur Rós convey a dreamlike, almost "cinematic" emotionality, like a soundtrack, which Radiohead absolutely do not have; no, in their lack of inventive richness, I ultimately find Muse much closer to Radiohead.

What an awesome review!! I haven't heard the album, but after such a presentation, it can't be worth less than 4!!

Nice review. However, I really liked the samples a lot. You're saying that "source tags and codes" is better?

However, I have to warn you that Close to me is actually not on this album, but in the compilation "Eudora"! But how do you put the samples on De-B?

No, the problem is that they don't transmit anything at all, despite many claiming otherwise. I’ve said too that the bass of Muse is remarkable.. And I also think the drummer isn’t bad at all.. The musician isn’t in question, but it's not the individual musician that makes the song.. The compositional poverty of Muse is frightening, beyond appearances; they borrow a bit here and a bit there, they’re pathetic, excessively melancholic (the Radiohead were already there) and I really don’t understand how you can say that Bellamy has talent. It's a bit like saying that Creed don’t copy Pearl Jam, as it’s obvious that Bellamy hasn’t invented anything, absolutely nothing of what he does..

What a joke! For sure! Don’t worry, I'm definitely not going to re-listen to the entire discography of the "teatro del sogno"... MAMMA MIA.. Of course not..

Beyond the reception, one of the most mediocre and overrated singers that have endured the ears of us poor Italians..
