R.E.M. Around The Sun

In my opinion, they are on a downward trajectory. Just to quote a spot-on phrase from Sick Boy in Trainspotting: "first you have it, then you lose it," well, they have lost it. This is an album made only of arrangements; there isn’t a melody worthy of being called such, banal vocal lines, pop at wholesale prices, like any "breakthrough" English band from NME that no one remembers after a year.

Honestly, I admire the courage of your review, which I knew would surely provoke a lot of disapproval. But this disapproval, Francis, is indeed justified, and it’s not just a matter of personal opinions. A major flaw is, in fact, that your descriptions of the songs are decidedly forced. More than a (tendentially) objective critique, it seems that you, with a certain amount of spite, wanted to distort the subject you’re discussing negatively at all costs. Because, okay, I can understand you (even though I disagree) when you say that this is a boring record... but when you claim that "Grace" is a College rock piece, we are definitely not on the same page. How can one not understand the enormous personality that a song like "Grace" has compared to what is meant by College Rock? "Last goodbye," Dawson Creek, Aerosmith, Freddie Mercury? No way! Come on, it seems to me that you have quite a respectable (if not excellent) musical education... Where are the grounds for such a statement? ...and the rest of the review is more or less on the same level. I don’t dispute the opinion, but the arguments, frankly, are poor.

I really like your style, Antimo... you could write a 4-page Word review and still not be boring! Genius.

download "perfect from now on", amazing! And quite close to the Lo-fi and the style you talk about in the review.. but it’s so much more than Lo-fi, think super melodic vocals, almost emo, over elongated and labyrinthine tracks, with constant dynamic shifts, and also a use of violin and double bass that I think is beautiful.. really unique!
P.S. I think I’ll review it too..
