Velvet Underground disciples??!! The Velvet Underground had completely different foundations and roots... moreover, VU&Nico is from '67 and the first demos, if I'm not mistaken, date back at least a year earlier... the instruments from other cultures were not actually first introduced by the Beatles; there were other British artists of the time, obviously much less known, who were already incorporating the sitar into their tracks. If you're talking about lo-fi, then it's much more of a reference, as with about 90% of the "alternative" movements in the decades that followed, White Light/White Heat, also from 1967.

I have "perfect from now on," which is an incredible album... by the way, considered one of the greatest masterpieces of American indie... Expanded emo that embraces folk, psychedelia, slow-core... gorgeous gorgeous.
