Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory

Anyway, let's begin: your speech, Robi, in my opinion, is completely misguided. First of all, I would never dream of disparaging complexity a priori. I love Genesis and King Crimson (one of the reasons why I can't stand DT even more), for example… but you can't reduce musical discourse to a superficial and simplistic "all compositions can be compared to each other"... not even in your dreams! Within the limits of human understanding and the use of melody, there absolutely exists the possibility of using melody in creative terms: your argument would subtly (and unconsciously) diminish and devalue the work of absolute geniuses like Robert Wyatt, who, with absolutely accessible melodies, manages to be incredibly original, conducts an incredible exploration, and uses his voice almost as if it were a wind instrument, a god. Or the same goes for Captain Beefheart or the Velvet Underground, just to mention the absolute forefathers, but we could go further... your argument suggests that the composition of a piece boils down to the search for the most sophisticated and elaborate sound possible, but composition is not just sound.

Robi, I really didn't think I was trash-talking you! My post above was clearly meant as a joke, the poor anonymous person above must have some serious issues not to have understood that... ; )

wish is a great album.. a bit uneven, but the noisier tracks are beautiful!

disintegration is a clever album, disintegration is an album primarily made to sell, regardless of its undeniable beauty; that’s where the key lies to understand its turning point.

Yes, but are you talking about Unknown Pleasures or Closer? Because in the latter case, it's one of the most overrated and commercial albums to have emerged in the English New Wave... then better Seventeen Seconds, which has the courage to be Pop.

Well, great Guy.. but I don't have the "courage" to get close to the pre-fugazi proposals, they seem too violent to me.

X Anonimo: your comment is wrong a priori in this context. According to your logic, there shouldn't even be such a thing as music criticism, if everything boils down to personal and subjective taste. But then, excuse me, what are you doing here? :-) Omeganex, thank you, the feeling is mutual, I won't reply further because it's a bit tiring for me, I've received three lengthy comments all at once. Consider yourselves lucky, I could have had plenty to say to tear you apart a bit! :D
