I like pop, I search for it tirelessly in a group capable of being communicative and original at the same time, and I wouldn't know what to do with indie rock'n roll... but this is truly obscene, in the literal sense of the term. It's an offense to dignity.

By the way, I just heard the new album, hoping naively that for once the sycophantic reviews from the "alternative" press would be sincere: pure crap, really bad, lacking brilliance, talentless, crap. But then again, it was obvious that they wouldn’t be able to evolve a bit; as the mediocre group they are, they are obviously strangers to the very concept of evolution.

But who ever said that pop can't offer masterpieces? Did I say it? No, you said it, and so you probably didn't understand a damn thing about what I said. XTC gifted us with masterpieces, and even The Strokes with Is this it, trying to be "young" (I'm 25, by the way), created a masterpiece. The Beach Boys' Smiley Smile was a pop masterpiece, while Franz Ferdinand embody mediocrity, they are the quintessential expression of non-artistic rock, an admission of an inability to renew themselves, and it's an admission of pettiness that I cannot share.

Thank you Loureedo! Unfortunately, I'm having serious problems with my computer (which seem impossible to fix), and lately I hardly come on Debaser... what a drag.

they are not simple songs, they are banal songs. The difference is very difficult to understand, I know, because it is a very subtle difference, but it definitely exists! Oh what a shame, I had problems with the internet and I couldn’t respond to everyone... now it's a bit of a struggle for me. Au revoir

To me, they don't seem the same with Follow the leader... and anyway, this sucks.

Sure, kind listener, why not... too bad I already hear odd times in Emerson, Lake & Palmer or Genesis, and I would never dream of calling them crap; however, if time is not relative, ELP and Genesis come about 25 years before the debut of Dream Theater. Moreover, you mention Scaruffi... mmm, already questionable in itself; but the Scaruffi you praise as a musician for DT has also stated, I quote (almost) verbatim: "Maureen Tucker is probably the greatest drummer in the history of rock"... Maureen Tucker, you understand? I mean someone who COULD NOT play the drums, and yet (and I agree) is the greatest drummer in the history of rock. It seems to me that Scaruffi doesn’t exactly share your point of view, read him better.

I believe you have an idea that's a bit out of focus, Sixchords, about my musical tastes. Moreover, your critique is biased: if only the DT made covers of Pink Floyd, they would already be more interesting. However, I did say they are derivative of a much broader range of bands and genres. Big D, glad for your participation : )
