If I'm not mistaken, they are well before both Franz Ferdinand and Editors.. and it seems to me that their most obvious influence is post-hardcore, in a much more melodic key and with a rhythmic section that is as irregular (but not fussy) as one can imagine (and it is the most original and interesting aspect of their music).

I generally agree with you. However, at the same time, the "let's shoot ourselves in the balls" theme has always been my favorite, along with the Painters.
