Yes, but you see, the argument can also be easily read from the opposite perspective: among the hundreds of monthly releases, why waste time on a mediocre and insignificant album when I might be missing out on some remarkable records? You probably based your opinion on some reckless review I mentioned in my own review, or if not, it doesn’t really matter... the point is that you show less intelligence than you arrogantly accuse in others, since your premises are completely biased: the album is good. Period. You don't explain why, how, or when. So, is it better to read a review or rely on a completely partisan comment?
Lagwagon Let's Talk About Feelings

ah ah ah : D ..what an apocalyptic record, so much fun! ; ) ..anyway, it's true, among the California melodic hardcore bands, Lagwagon are the ones with the greatest writing ability.. even if, let's be honest, this is a pop record through and through (which in itself doesn't detract from it)

Well, for me, it’s much better to compare the Strokes to the Velvet Underground, precisely because, mind you, they do take formal elements from them and don’t try to replicate their essence, thus respecting their greatness. This is in contrast to much more intellectual groups like the Pansley Underground from the early '80s, who, with all due respect, were much closer to being mere epigones. I completely agree with you about the Pixies; that goes without saying! :) ...less so about QOTSA; great little album, sure... but it doesn’t seem particularly genius or groundbreaking in its fusion of psychedelia and punk energy. However, on Royal Trux, I think you’ve made another stretch... their approach was totally different, and what I like about the early Strokes' R’n’R is that it manages to sound modern while maintaining an absolutely entertaining attitude, very much in line with 50s rock 'n' roll... the Royal Trux are definitely closer to bands like Slint (huge!), but in my humble opinion, they are way too geometric, abstract, and therefore pretentious. This, while still acknowledging their historical importance :) (and not getting into it too deeply, as that would open up yet another large discussion)... ciao!

To make it short, I totally agree with you on the last two posts, but obviously not on the first two: While the Strokes making (or having made) the same music as Bosshog seems like the classic oversimplification of someone trying to prove something at all costs... the Strokes were among the first in this new wave, but that can easily be overlooked. What interests me about the Strokes is their first album: it filters "high" elements like the guitar style of Television (so much for being accessory), the harmonies and rhythms of the more communicative Velvet Underground, and transfers them into the bare context of a typical rock 'n' roll track (I mean the traditional format of the '50s)... the Strokes, in their own way, perform a revisitation that is little short of creative. Their approach is synthetic and constructive; they do not limit themselves to copying and citing, but synthesize a style that is nonetheless unique from their starting elements, which makes them, whether you like it or not, decidedly above the average of the groups that followed them. This, I repeat, is in "Is This It"... taking a piece like "Soma," for example (a masterpiece for me)... the same riffs as Television (not identical, but in idea), minimized and sped up, with an atmosphere that recalls the obsessiveness of the Feelies... all within a track that does not exceed two minutes and 22 seconds. It is truly rare to listen to a piece that is so incredibly simple yet so oblique... After the '90s, which were so inflated and elaborate, the Strokes in 2001 were a small revolution. What followed them, obviously, was not, as their intuition was picked up in form, not in substance.
