But metal before metal where. And then, I really don't see how "velvet underground e nico" wasn't experimental and crazy. Well...

I find Fiumani really likable.. he has that genuinely amateurish approach that most so-called "indie" bands today could only dream of.. and the songs are, let’s say, not exactly essential but it doesn’t matter much: the beauty lies in his straightforwardness of "I don't give a damn about what’s going on around me".. and it's not a matter of status or fashion, it's really his shameless way of engaging.. even the last album released under his own name is quite cool after all. The review is rather brief but maybe you did it that way in his honor ;-D

Great Feelies.. I notice that you also appreciate this band, which is generally considered (wrongly, of course) lesser compared to others from New York and its surroundings. Hi pretazzo!

But you see, pretazzo, you brought a paroxysmal example to make your point, namely that of the song form, which I wasn't necessarily referring to. There are various levels of being cacophonous, bizarre, twisted... with this in mind, I don't want to claim that this is a record devoid of meaning or expressiveness; quite the opposite, and you are evidently the "living case" :-D of someone to whom this record can convey a message, to communicate in the classic sense of the term, which is already a sufficient answer to my question above. Yet personally, I believe that a more communicative formula is generally more of a virtue than a flaw, because I think that the essence of art truly lies where the avant-garde meets simplicity (and this record has only the brief duration of the tracks as its “simplicity”)... For example, while I can't fully assimilate this, I nevertheless understand its enormous expressive power. However, I will never be able to consider a record like Twin Infinitives (I bring it up because you cited it too) to be art; it is pretentious, intellectual, overflowing with its arrogant assumptions... and at the same time, a record like Tweez by Slint conveys a wide range of emotions to me... I'm not someone who shuns the "twisted" a priori :-D... but the avant-garde in its pure self-referentiality risks being sterile and pointless, not to mention even less profound than a pop track.

I really don't like them at all: one of the most blatant and sad examples of how many Italian groups, in an attempt to be original and "artistic," often end up being as pretentious and intellectual as possible (which is the clearest demonstration of their mediocrity and enormous limitations). Despite this, you managed to pique my curiosity, and perhaps this is a different and more interesting album than what I've heard from their production. I'll look for it.

Wow, to convey "beautiful emotions" you really have to be out of your mind, pretazzo :-D... I would understand if you had said, I don't know, a "sense of destabilization", but "beautiful emotions" is the last thing I would have thought this album could transmit!

After reading a bit of the discussion, I find myself arriving at the same conclusions as Psycho: the question that arises spontaneously is: can an album like this be considered an absolute masterpiece for its undeniable and perhaps unparalleled revolutionary quality, or does it make no sense for an album that fails to have a real communicative value? Because this is an enormously expressive album, but to whom, what, and how much does it manage to convey?

He is absolutely right, I have a penis, but I think he is exaggerating when he says that RATM are not significant. It is undeniable that crossover insights are things that existed even ten years earlier, but it is equally undeniable that it is with RATM that these insights really become a style (which only reaffirms the historical importance of the bands that came before RATM). Morello's riffs may be elementary, but it is Morello who, by intrinsically placing both the expressive power of hard rock and hardcore and the oblique rhythm of funk in his riffs, essentially creates a true style where before we were merely talking about blending genres in a more or less synthetic way, which still remained fully distinct, even within the same song or even phrasing.
