Hey Chronos, I'm re-listening to the Esoteric and I have to say they are simply stunning. Do you know anything similar you could recommend? (In the meantime, I recommend Agalloch and Kanathe). Say hi to your brother for me.

one of the best albums by Testament (in my opinion) but it comes too late. When Testament started to really thrash, Death was at the peak of their success. Great review.

I've never been crazy about Obituary. I've always found them raw and brash, even though I cherish their first three albums (for me, the only worthy ones). The live album, to give credit where it's due, is an excellent live recording, and I thought the choice of songs was appropriate (I might have insisted a bit more on "Slowly We Rot"). Well done!

I still haven't figured out what’s wrong with metalheads... art...

matt7, I see that there's someone in the world who agrees with me (out of curiosity, go check the reviews of bestial online, they’re also speaking positively about it!!!). I don’t have the album but I trust the vote!

The Floridian death metal scene includes: Death (essentially the founders), Deicide, Morbid Angel, Monstrosity, Malevolent Creation, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, and a few others that I'm surely forgetting right now. These bands share some traits; they have a riffing style that is still partially tied to the more violent thrash (Sepultura, Slayer, Testament), they write a lot of braggadocio, and they are more violent and faster. The New Yorkers (Immolation, Skinless, Dying Fetus, Suffocation) write darker and more oppressive arrangements, slower and generally more "decadent." Thanks to the usual Ocram, Dark Kingdom, and Matt7.

Fallen, I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. Since that unjustified and unjustifiable murder, Jon has dropped tremendously in my esteem. Undoubtedly a great musician, but on a strictly personal level, I believe he was a far worse person than Varg Vikernes. I didn't know much about the MLO, but from what you tell me, it seems to be a blend of Stoicism and Epicureanism; still, seeing him in the guise of the satanic Quattrocchi doesn't really sit well with me. In the sense that I believe one shouldn’t kill themselves just for ideology. The review is too bare; you could have done better. As for the album, I've always preferred "The Somberlain."
