In my opinion, the only moment when Italy really showed its stuff and demonstrated its musical skills was during the Italian Prog era (let's not even mention the so-called "minor" bands like Il Balletto Di Bronzo) with Banco, PFM, and Le Orme, which are quite well-known in America (PFM), Japan, and Mexico (Le Orme, Banco)... so I believe that Italian Prog was indeed very important; but it has a dimension of its own, separate from the English, French, and German scenes (which is not really Prog Rock, but Kraut Rock)...
