Yes, their passion for Guinness is well-known, as is their love for Buckfast (a wine, indeed indigenous). Being Catholics, they could only root for Celtic: for the record, they were huge fans of Paolo Di Canio (who left wonderful memories wearing the green and white jersey).

@alessio. In fact, far from it! I wouldn’t call it brit-pop! @azzo. And did your roommates give you "Bandwagonesque"? They must have ruined their finances, haha... joking aside, "A Catholic Education" was definitely grittier and boasted some standout tracks like the scrappy "Everybody's Fool" and the stunning "Everything Flows"... even though the melodic talent of "Bandwagonesque" is slightly superior in my opinion. After all, if you look at their subsequent discography, you realize that the Scots were really lost in the Rickenbacker sound and those catchy, polished tones... albums like "Grand Prix" and "Songs from Northern Britain" have nothing left of that rough and electric edge and are actually forgettable for me. @Gigi. I only know Terry Reid's self-titled album and "River" (excellent, that one). From what I’ve heard, he seems to be a decent singer-songwriter, at times indebted to Donovan, Tim Buckley, and the inevitable Neil, with quite a few good songs in store. Perhaps calling him an "underrated genius" is a bit excessive, but I definitely think he deserves a rediscovery.

Dear Lewis, I too prefer Gene and David; in fact, I've even reviewed their solo albums... but credit must be given where it's due in this case. Bye!

As an old "betrayed" fan by Eddie, I too will have to listen....

The review is very nice, although I prefer the easycure to be sharper and more concise. The album seems to oscillate between 3 and 4 stars in my head... maybe I’ll change my mind too!

Yes, of course the Manics are not one-dimensional like others... but you know how I feel. Qualitatively, after Edwards' departure, they haven't really said much to me. When it comes to grunge, you have all the cards to express your opinion: my irony comes from the fact that after your comments on the Tad review, you had shown a certain idiosyncrasy towards these fanatical discussions.

"We chase the lies of scrap paper." I think in that line he refers to the lies of the press, to how there was speculation at the time about Layne's drug addiction (at one point, there was even news published about his alleged HIV positivity!)... that "We chase" seems quite ironic, also referring to those fans who are unwittingly responsible for the morbid attention of the media. Another line is emblematic: "My privacy is raked"...common themes for both Cobain and Vedder, clearly.
