Thanks to everyone for stopping by. @axel, no, the cover of "bang-bang" seems to have been released as a single in '67. It should still be traceable in the soundtrack of Kill Bill. @Giustiziere. The album may be liked or disliked, of course. But to claim that “records like this were churned out in droves in the '60s” strikes me as an exaggeration. Even in the realm of easy listening from the late '60s, I believe it was a significant step forward, both for its sonic eclecticism (there's even psychedelia, of course, expressed in a baroque sense and subtly hidden among country and folk), and for those bizarre interlocks that altered the perception of melody. You say that “to this day, if we talk about the '60s, these two certainly don’t stand out.” In fact, I don’t recall presenting the duo in question as the absolute pinnacle of the decade, but in the realm of baroque pop and songwriting, this album is a peak, not to mention how Nancy and Lee have since become an undeniable archetype of vocal duets. And not by chance, Hazlewood’s legacy is still today seen as an influence and model by dozens of artists; just the impressive number of covers derived from “nancy & Lee”, of which I provided a few examples in the links, attests to this. Regarding the fresco of the Sixties, there can be hundreds on such a multifaceted decade; one doesn’t exclude the other, and in its own way, this one is perfectly representative. Bye!

Very good album, characterized by an exotic eclecticism that Buck would also convey (but with less inspiration) in a piece from "Up" ("You're in the air"). Barrett Martin on great form, just as he was with his previous supergroup, Mad Season.

In addition to the cover, the booklet of "Decade" is also noteworthy, featuring historical statements from Neil about the songs. Setting aside the historic soap opera of the archives, the new album, "Fork in the Road," is set to be released soon (unless he changes his mind....).

A forty-year career like Young's (but the same goes for Dylan, Reed, or Cohen) is hardly encapsulatable in a double collection, and it’s always easy to play the expert and point out what’s missing. Just think about a greatest hits album, which is intrinsically the algebraic sum of the most famous and sold pieces: that’s why we find "harvest moon" here and not masterpieces like "pocahontas," "powderfinger," or "philadelphia," just to mention some of Young's mature work. Even on "Decades," the works from the "ditch trilogy" were underrepresented, and "time fades away" was entirely ignored: the organic nature of certain works should be appreciated in its entirety, and one hopes that the newcomer will have the unmatched pleasure of discovering them after uncovering the more famous gems.
