In matters of taste... this is democracy too!

Unfortunately, it happens that I fall for it every time: I try to categorize a group, and inevitably it ends up that I've built them a "suit" that's either too tight or too short. Unfortunately, synthesis leads to this as well. In the Styx of that period, if we want to be honest, there were still some prog echoes here and there (they had already figured out that the lemon had been squeezed enough…). The discussion regarding the definition of the music played by our guys came up in the other review as well. I reiterate that I don't like labeling. I only use it as a beacon to guide the reader who has never heard Styx. That's all. Thank you anyway for the compliments to all of you.

I discover late (compared to others) what you write: it's the usual laziness we talked about elsewhere, remember? You made me want to rediscover them, because this CD, I admit my ignorance back then, made me discover them in a rather troubled moment of my life. For some time, I had left them there on the shelf along with the other discs. It’s time to ā€œbring them back to lifeā€...

Your review is wonderful! We belong, at least as I understand it, to the same generation: perhaps that's why "I'm not in Love" represents something more than just a simple song for me as well. At certain moments in my life, I have listened to it many times in a row and without interruption. Records like this truly give dignity to the word pop, which is too often violated, especially these days...

Trying to answer those few questions, I would say: 1) I like the term "pomp rock" as a definition; perhaps it's because it fills your mouth when you say it, but in the end, it’s just a simple definition that, for some bands, is limiting; 2) I'm also a big fan of Kansas, and I would say that if we compare their output from the same period, they are not really the same: I used them as a benchmark to highlight the musical style in question, which is that "substantial" rock; 3) I don’t know when I will do the next review on Styx: at the same time, I did one on Mike Oldfield that I will publish soon; I’ll see, depending on my various commitments, if I can manage it: even though I gladly accept the "challenge" of Pibroch (and it intrigues me!).

Thank you, Hybris, very kind: yes, there is a bit of rock culture, otherwise we wouldn't be here telling each other stories. But sometimes it seems like it's a treasure for the few, at least judging by what they're trying to shove down our throats and from what many of my acquaintances listen to... Unfortunately, it's labeled as pompous rock or, for short, pomp rock. Call it AOR, hard rock: in the end, they are just definitions to guide those who don't know the album/band. The various distinctions are just subtleties and quibbles about trivial matters that, in my opinion, are utterly irrelevant...

I picked up "paper and pen" again after a long time, due to my chronic and pachydermic laziness: I don’t promise anything, we’ll see. Your suggestion is excellent: yes, the Bostons are just as you describe them, indeed. I had given the friend a few names that are "easily" accessible: the usual story, many times the internet is a mandatory route for the search for something else...

Chris Squire is nicknamed "Fish" (or "The Fish"), a moniker devised by Bill Bruford when he flooded a hotel room in Oslo while taking a shower.
