West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band Vol. 2

Some things are also ridiculous, but I believe tenderness is the right word... many records from that era contain some magic and many ugliness, especially in American records, where the bands still had the concept of the single and not of the LP, while in England they let the singles live their own life and aimed to conceive music for an album...

I completely agree with your overall assessment of the band... I also think this is the most cohesive... I really like the analysis you provide of the period.

no... it’s about the period... while the Beatles were making Rubber, others were making their changes, it was a quid (as you say) that was in the air and that many breathed together and exhaled in different ways... but the Beatles were there too, and they did it as well, among the first...

even the Byrds were doing just (some great) folk in '65, then just a year later 5th Dimension... or the Love with the eponymous... then a change... that's where the shift happened, and many recorded it, in different ways. Dylan went electric

because psychedelia is not a musical genre... but an attitude, the reflection of a use (abuse) of substances, that allowed you to see "other" and the musicians tried to translate this other into music... you can clearly feel the shift from the early works of the Beatles... in this aspect, Rubber Soul is psychedelic (especially with such a title)...

I understand your "prejudices" about the Beatles... I don’t think it’s fair to say that they invented anything... rather, they perceived changes with perfect timing, and lacking in technique (but enormously rich in imagination and passion), they tried to translate into music what surrounded them. They lived in a glass bubble until '65, then suddenly they shook off the dust of rock'n'roll and began to "experiment" (still within the pop realm), putting new clothes on their music... in Norwegian Wood or Only Sleeping and almost everything on Revolver, you can feel this... the novelty... amplified by the Floyd and many others... but where were all the psychedelics in '65... they were at home studying and getting shaken up... they didn’t invent it, they felt it a little bit ahead of time... I believe.

ok... Beatles with Rubber Soul (65) and Revolver (66)... Byrds with 5th Dimension (66)... and if we want to go back to the origins, maybe Mothers of Invention... Freak Out..!!! then I'm sorry, but you're forgetting the absolute peak of psychedelia and of the entire 67... Piper At The Gates Of Dawn... and while we're at it, Da Capo is a 66... Forever Changes is from 67...
