I, a true A-level ignorant when it comes to Roman times, refer to the works of Cicero, the aqueducts, the government, how they managed conquered peoples, their techniques, their level of culture, their modernity. However, Goffredo... if someone had not firmly believed that this (Italy) was not a country to be unified, or not a country to be liberated... maybe with their chest puffed out, who knows where we would be now. I don't think Italians are the most grandiose and obtuse nationalists. Have you ever visited France (which insists on not using a word of English...), ever visited the USA...? Anyway, I agree on the exaggerated sense and especially on the detrimental aspects that nationalism brings. But we must also consider our history and the beautiful things (I think of the Risorgimento, of the Roman era...) and immortal things we have done. I believe we should be proud of this.
