Well, well... but communism has now become a social utopia, no longer an economic model to be applied to society. The "communism" of the old Eastern Europe, the Chinese, the Cuban doesn't work. But there remains that dream of everyone being equal, or rather of everyone having the same opportunities, or even better, of not being exploited like machines. More likely, what we need is more social equity. More social justice. More honesty. Communism has remained a foundational idea that has generated others. Perhaps not all of them so just. But in the end, we are all selfish. If someone is a worker, they are a communist for themselves to expand their own little plot. If someone is an industrialist, they always vote to the right with the hope that it will protect their own interests. Fundamentally, what interests all of us, more than capitalism, more than communism, more than socialism, more than anything... is selfishness. I believe it is now pointless to be concerned only with what is the best model to apply to a nation of 60 million inhabitants when about three billion people are literally dying of hunger and risking their lives on a raft in the middle of the sea to try to save themselves. Solidarity, perhaps we should start here.
