Esteemed Odradek, tastes are tastes. Perhaps you forget one thing, Time is also important. Time too issues its judgments. I, after decades, feel "the soul" in Rino's songs. In those of many renowned singer-songwriters contemporary to Gaetano, not always. Songs are still songs? Go tell that to the poems of De Andrè or Mogol. But after all, tastes are tastes.

I've always liked Gaetano. Very genuine, not snooty at all. Battisti was melody and lyrics by Mogol (or Panella), Graziani was a troubadour. Gaetano was a fighter. One with guts. And indeed, he was relegated to the margins. Better the fireworks of Battisti.
