Holdsworth, flying high, I stumbled upon you! What the hell were you doing? Stoney, alright, good job Odifreddi for what you say. But he remains just a rather crude popularizer in this sense. From what I've read about him, it really shows what you’re saying: the divinization of science, of mathematics, of physics; on the contrary, the dismissal of other branches of human feeling. CptG.. Odifreddi is an extremist in the sense you specified at point 6. Too certain of what he knows. Too convinced that other "fields" are useless. I'd say fundamentalist. If Einstein had been narrow-minded, he wouldn't have discovered anything at all, in my opinion. For being an ordinary professor, Odifreddi is fine. To be a great in history, one needs to soar high like Einstein.

Here, Piergiorgio Odifreddi, whose "Mathematician..." I've read, is indeed an extremist, as you say. He is undoubtedly intelligent, quick-witted, shrewd, and brave, but unfortunately for him, he remains an extremist. A sad thing. Blind spots always limit one's vision, even if worn by someone as "enlightened" as he believes himself to be. Of an entirely different caliber, of course, are Einstein's formulas and the way B.
