In headphones during this damn sleepless night, what can I say, I fall more in love every day. Probably Beefheart, Thomas, and the New York No-Wave scene (but I'd also include bands like Devo to some extent) have left an indelible mark on the vocal lines of alternative music's future, as well as the musical lines. Seeing Thomas live is a must; a mime, a vital and expressive performer like no other.

STRE PI TO SO. I downloaded a pretty rare live show, Jesus Lizard in Toronto in 1990. Yow is simply a psycho alcoholic son of a bitch doing absolutely insane things. He screams to stay calm, makes retarded faces, has a physicality worthy of the most seasoned stage actor, he's deadly. And now I find myself asking, why do I find every single fart from Nirvana and Cobain, even the most forgettable stuff, and yet I have to wait years to see the Lizard (who are absolutely not inferior)??? Fuck! Live they were gods, and now I can say that with certainty. 5 again, a unique, exciting, fuckable band.

I agree, Pretazzo, but I would also include anyone who listens exclusively to one music genre. Metalheads are really specialized in stubbornness, but the others aren't any better, from the grungers to the hardcore fans... the simple kids of '70s rock. What a drag!!! Yeah, for a hippie, The End will always be more laden with tragedy than a Frankie Teardrop, and the deconstructed formulas of the United States Of America will be indescribably superior to those of the Jesus Lizard; I listen to both and take inspiration... well, whatever, I'm cool :P (just joking) But hey, Pretazzo, do you play something?

A review that's a bit too biased and enthusiastic for an insignificant group that has managed to hit on a couple of decent melodies after years and years. And enough of this feminism for illiterate girls; feminism isn't pushed forward by the third-grade jingles of Hanna and company, but by people with much more guts. Since the manifesto of the 60s, it certainly hasn't been Le Tigre that has shaken up the feminist scene; let's just say they don't count for a damn thing :) Much better are L7, Babes in Toyland, and 7 Year Bitch, and Shonen Knife or the 5.6.7.8s are much more fun when it comes to easy listening...

Is it everywhere? But since when? And at what price? Are you saying that my shopkeeper was making fun of me? Thanks for the mention of "Generic" by Flipper, I’ve never listened to it and I will, but it did come out a few years after No New York.

Hi Mike...there's a wonderful review of Flipper on this site, specifically of Generic. Beautifully written by Sanjuro, hi Sanjuro. I agree that half of the "genius" of later bands shatters against the freshness of a work like this, conceived in '78. I’m not a fan of Sonic Youth; I find that No New York is much rawer, more impactful, and filled with existentialism compared to any work by Thurston & Co.
