Spirit Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus
Voto:
Thanks, people. This record really reminds me of my time in Tokyo, and it's perhaps one of the last albums that I really dug into and associate with a specific period of my life. Unfortunately, mass downloading and purchasing, combined with the little time I have available, have long prevented me from linking music to a specific time. I kind of miss that; I was just talking about it yesterday with my girlfriend. Anyway, from the Spirits, I obviously recommend "the family that plays together" and also the less known "clear," which is very relaxing. For me, the Spirits are a true beach relaxation band. If I have time, I’ll put samples.

given to a friend for his birthday, a nice hefty book but definitely interesting
Charles Manson Lie: The Love and Terror Cult
Voto:
I didn't want to pass any judgment on Manson's innocence or moral rectitude, but I just wanted to say that reading his deposition and comparing how over time his figure as a bloodthirsty monster has been portrayed reveals an abyss. The fact that the family has been a scapegoat to deliver the final blow to American counterculture is almost a given by now. Of course, this doesn't exonerate them from the accusations, far from it. Moreover, it is in any case wrong and undemocratic to prevent jurors from hearing a deposition.

So the review reads like a shopping list, and I'm sorry, it’s also full of repetitions. I never had much interest in the album, but when I was younger I was fascinated by Manson and the Family. I’d like to point out that he didn’t physically participate in the murder of Sharon Tate, Polanski's pregnant wife, but rather his affiliates in the Family. I even bought a nice little booklet that I should have somewhere (it was published by Stampa Alternativa for 1000 lire) with his trial testimony. First, Manson wasn’t a crazy person, but rather a mythomaniac obsessed with Helter Skelter and, as you say, the Beatles. The problem is that this testimony was made behind closed doors, and WITHOUT THE JURY PRESENT, because the details of the murder and Manson's figure could disturb the jurors. They effectively judged him guilty without a trial and without the chance to speak his mind. According to various theories (and also in light of subsequent events), Manson and the Family were a pretext to condemn the hippie movement in the eyes of American public opinion, which was already fading. Not to mention the media and symbolic relevance of the murder that took place at the free concert at Altamont the same year.
Funkadelic One Nation Under A Groove

I love "Maggot Brain" and "Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow," those are my idea of funk, dirtier than these Funkadelic. Anyway, "Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock!" is a blast.

I come from a heavy work week, now an interview for another one tomorrow morning, waking up at 7... and maybe without a car. I guess you'll say goodbye to the Norwegians for me tonight, unless by some miracle I rest, otherwise I'll collapse.
The Velvet Underground The Velvet Underground & Nico

Wow, what a thing to read... @pretazzo: did you know that I recently read that "Black Angel's" was played by the Velvet before Warhol discovered them? They played it in many venues, and often the owners kicked them out before the end of the song. Also because the audience would leave well before.
Black Lips Let It Bloom

Today at work, my boss approaches me and asks if I write reviews, and I respond positively, feeling good about it... then it occurs to me that this review was also published in a local magazine not under my pseudonym but under my real name... and I have to say I feel a little foolish, first because to avoid unnecessary harassment I could have written under a pseudonym, second because I trusted some gossiping colleagues, third because upon rereading it, it’s not that great, it comes off as very leftist teenager antagonistic. That is, simplistic and trivial just like a convinced supporter of Forza Italia like the aforementioned director. I feel a bit like an idiot, let's say.
Yesterday's Children Yesterday's Children

I must say it's far better than I imagined... devastating, perhaps one of the bands that best represent the transition from garage minimalism to early hard rock. Fabulous.
The Creation Our Music Is Red With Purple Flashes

I only have the pieces of nuggets II but they don't drive me crazy, unfortunately I have few garage or similar records from that period that hold up for all the tracks. Oh, it's funny that MTV used the riff of making time for the interludes.
