not bad, not bad, I'm appreciating it on rainy days like these. If I didn't have to work and could smoke joints from morning to night, it would be my favorite group.

I had forgotten about this comment... Barrett's album didn't ruin it musically. In my opinion, he simply capitalized in some way on Syd's fragile mental state. Period. I don't remember which track from Madcap you can hear Syd going off-key, then he slams the door and comes back in. It's sad + Gilmour not cutting it and leaving the piece as it is on the album. It's a bastard move. As for not understanding a damn thing, then we are brothers. Actually, maybe you are the elder since you act superior. But I don't think you even make it to thirty... Anyway, the Kinks may not have been strictly a garage band, but according to Sky Saxon and others, they were a big source of inspiration for American youth in '64-'65. He himself admits that after seeing them he tried to form a band. You never stop learning.

Well, Ken, the voice of the verb "to do" seems to me to be quite a surreal-situationist declaration, if we're being generous. Among the various meanings, there's that of Kan from Japanese, loosely translatable as sensation, feeling, since it's the root of the verb to feel, kanjiru. And then, damn, I'm calling you like a Kurosawa film...

I don't have the expertise, I work a lot and on the weekends I relax, maybe I'll review Nirvana... the '60s ones, of course.

Congrats stoopid, it's been a while since I read such a beautiful piece, maybe a tad overly descriptive, but hyper engaging. I'd say envy.

damn, I've never even heard of these... I need to go study up on '70s rock. thanks for the heads-up. But just to know, what other hard rock stuff do they sound like? I mean, aside from the holy trinity of Sabbath, Zeppelin, Purple, obviously. Like Groundhogs? Like May Blitz? Edgar Broughton Band? Kung Fu Fighting?

Well, pretazzo, for sure "Louie Louie" was the birth of the power chord and so on, but at a media level, the spark that ignited everything were the tours of The Kinks and the early Beatles (who, let's not forget, back then were a solid live band and sounded like Buddha intended). I'm not a historian; I'm just repeating what I've heard from the protagonists themselves. A couple of years ago, my girlfriend gave me an American DVD about the history of garage music (which was quite pathetic, by the way) with interviews from the singer of the Shadows of Knight, Sky Saxon from The Seeds, and others who were saying exactly this. They obviously added surf music and the rock 'n' roll of Bo Diddley and Berry. But for them, those events made them want to start a band. Oh, but nothing is certain in this world...

I'm also more attached to this than to blues... but both are a 6 in my personal ranking. And then blues, in terms of psychedelic jams, doesn't hold back... where do we place Freedom Run? The only thing I seem to disagree on is using the term stoner for their music. I know everyone knows by now that, "by convention," their music from the early Monster Magnet and Sleep (a little less so here) has been labeled stoner. But does anyone remember the reviews of this album? Or of Superjudge by Monster? I mean those from the time, obviously. As far as I remember, no one brought up the term. It emerged with the slew of imitators after the breakup. I'm telling you this because from the release of Slo Burn until 2001, I bought everything in that genre. It's like someone considers themselves a martyr before dying. @sylvian: I had my doubts too because the CD side only says Kyuss, but by convention I think it’s called that or just Sky Valley.

Given my tastes, Garage is among my favorite albums by the Ramones, The Shape of Things to Come, both the original and their version, is awesome.
