Nice, I was expecting a crap, but instead it’s one of the few movies where the plot holds until the end, compliments.

Nothing to say ABOUT Woody Allen's film as far as I'm concerned. A series of fantastic gags. The conversation with the father in prison where he stupidly quotes all the characters from Dostoevsky? GENIUS. The herring salesman? On his deathbed with the Pope checking the time? I'm going to watch it again tonight. Thank you, Woody, for the laughs you’ve given me.

@sorcio: Do you speak Japanese too? NamamekaJIki means raw swordfish, so what does namamekashiki mean? @outofit: Of course everyone is free to be interested in the music they like the most. I was just getting mad because if you've lived in Japan and you're into music, you realize that Jpop is a huge trap, with a massive money flow, which unfortunately has followed the obsession of the last 5 years for all Japanese pop culture. Damn, I might as well try to publish my thesis; I could make some money given all the Nipponmaniacs around.

I don’t understand why it has recently become fashionable to bring up visual kei groups (I’m not addressing you, reviewer, but the Italian press and webzines), a trend that has already faded in Japan (better late than never) and that clearly prioritizes form over substance. For heaven's sake, what is pop culture here and there (but there muuuuch more) is fundamentally the realm of "fake it till you make it" and image above all, we’ll add the content in post-production. Fortunately, there are many musically valid Japanese groups, with proposals that do not draw solely from a foreign musical matrix (the only quality of visual kei being the proposition of an indigenous syncretism of cultural styles), but also local influences that are not fake like most of visual kei. It seems there is a desire to import a culturally mediated vision of contemporary Japan, depending on which aspect of Japan itself is trending in Western fashions. It’s hard to explain how utterly frivolous proposals lacking musical depth (but rich in economic and marketing depth) like Utada Hikaru receive self-satisfied reviews with rare introspection and musical analysis on Pitchfork and Ondarock. But come on, then give Britney and Mariah decent reviews too! One last note: what exactly does the title you mentioned mean? ...if the first word is wrong, I get something like: "the rest of the raw swordfish, a hesitant smile." Enlighten me because I can’t come up with a sensible translation. I need to hit the books again…

You're telling me, Josi, that if I go to the ancient history course, say at the University of Bologna, the Gospels are considered textbooks? I'm not trying to be an anti-clerical for two cents, but the dates memorized didn't seem precise enough to make the work useful for historians. I repeat, in case of a lack of alternative historiographical sources, it's fine to use any epic-sacred text, but if they exist, I don't see the reason. Anyway, that's enough, I didn't want to start too long a discussion; I got curious to reread something from the Gospels. I’ve always preferred the Old Testament over the New, more delirious, more evil, less soft-hearted. Okay, okay, don't get mad about the soft-hearted part!

You see, the problem isn't objectivity; it's taste. Saying "the early albums might be liked or not, but they were genius, because if it's true that at that time there were Italian artists singing sappy love songs..." is absolute nonsense. You were a kid back then (nothing wrong with that, mind you), so from what I see, you don't know that there was a mountain of better stuff. I hope you were referring to chart-topping songs, because otherwise, the list of songs and bands light-years away from these two idiots is endless. And by the way, you assume that they accompanied my adolescence, when I've clearly written that I thought they sucked even back then. So what should I renounce? Just because I heard a band on the radio in my teenage years doesn’t mean I felt represented by them. I have all the Queen albums; who the hell has ever renounced them? Soon enough, I won’t even renounce the Dire Straits from when I was 12 years old. Unfortunately, the problem is this tendency towards musical revisionism, giving artistic dignity to any generational anthem, whether it's decent or indecent (like in this case). Period. And I can understand you, given your age; the problem is critics my age or older. That's where there’s cause for concern. @anonimo: I think Eisturzende suck just as much as those who settle for crappy music. But I don’t get mad; tastes are tastes. I get mad when people like you try to give artistic dignity to commercial garbage. Trash elevated to a semi-elitist form of culture. A terrible trend in the last 6 or 7 years. If I want to listen to some anonymous easy-listening stuff, I know exactly where to choose. Definitely not these; everyone is free to do so, I repeat, but seeking recognition for artistic merits makes me angry.

galakordi can you explain this sentence: "Gospels are...history as History (a topic much on the lips of the foolish)..." what do you mean I don't understand. Do you think that the Gospels are history or rather that they are reliable historical sources? I can understand treating as history, say, the papyri of the early Egyptian dynasties, as epic as they are, children of imperial propaganda, due to the obvious lack of other historical sources, but at least regarding the New Testament, at the time there were cross-referenced historical sources from Roman, Jewish, and even Greek accounts. I don't see why to cling to a book of epic written long after the events when reliable sources are available. Don't you think?

Ah well, then the church becomes the state, so it holds political weight only when it suits you, right? It has been a State for most of its history, and it maintains much more political power than one might believe. So as a State, why not take a stance against a war criminal? And let's not talk nonsense about Christian charity! It has been dead and buried, more or less, since the death of St. Francis of Assisi. Or at least don't come to me claiming there isn't a political apparatus behind every little step of any pope. The church has always played the game well, benefiting and being nice to everyone, good and bad alike, so zero enmities and maximum results. Let it be clear I don’t criticize this policy as much, but rather those who refuse to acknowledge its secular nature in a structure that should aim for the transcendent. I repeat, a good syncretism, where Good and Evil do not exist (as they truly do not), and we would all be happier.

.....well then you did well to switch to cinema. Has he not been accused of plagiarizing Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns yet? Don't tell me the beginning of that crap about happy hour isn't the same....anyway, I don't understand poletti, you rightly lash out at fake masters and so on, and then you listen to someone who peddles clichés and musical ugliness left and right? For goodness' sake, your business not mine, but it seems like a split personality.

"The 'crude' scenes merely represent the truth of the facts, that's all." Excuse me, I've lost a step: since when is the Bible (specifically the New Testament and the Gospels) considered historically reliable? I mean, when literal interpretations lead to gruesome things, everyone says, "It shouldn't be taken literally; these are metaphors that require multiple keys to understand!"... okay. But when it suits them, they cling to those pages until they feel able to say: "The facts went like this." Well, I will never understand these monotheisms... why not embrace a good religious syncretism? No? Like a mix of Catholicism, Tungusic shamanism, Confucianism, and Polynesian millenarian cults like the Cargo cult. It would be a much more peaceful life for everyone.
