Horace Silver Song For My Father

Whoever wrote this jazz review clearly doesn’t know much, actually... how can one not mention the immense performance in this album by Joe Henderson of the beautiful "Calcutta Cutie," "The Kicker," "Lonely Woman," etc.? It’s important to explain that there are two different line-ups supporting Silver... in short, there was plenty to say (without needing to be an expert). Then this phrase really made me lose my cool (and thus my rating for the review): "The danger of jazz is notoriously ending up in a self-indulgent solo that goes nowhere (WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???? UGLY JAZZ MAYBE), which only tells you that the player has a big ego but that means nothing (THESE ARE THE DANGERS MORE FOR FUSION THAN JAZZ), they are notes thrown together randomly (HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND???). A danger completely avoided (LIKE IN SO MANY OTHER JAZZ ALBUMS) in this little masterpiece (GREAT MASTERPIECE AT MOST), characterized in my opinion by an exquisite balance between composition and improvisation (for a modern ear perhaps leaning more towards the former) (WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN???). In short, a nice album that relaxes (?????) and does not put you to sleep (???????)..."

Well, I'll start in album order: from ABSOLUTELY FREE "Invocation & Ritual Dance of Young Pumpkin" (the first track by Frank featuring a guitar solo that already highlights his absolute personality in approaching the instrument). From UNCLE MEAT I choose "Nine Types of Industrial Pollution" (a soaring and floating solo, pure magic). From HOT RATS it’s truly difficult to select among the solos, but I agree with Dante "Son of Mr. Green Genes" (then it's me!). From CHUNGA'S REVENGE the title track... (continues)

Of course, Dante's rankings are very tempting but they require a bit of time. I've seen the film you're referring to too (very nice). If we're going by memory, the first among many is in "Illinois Enema Bandit" ("Zappa in New York"), and you're right about the one from "Inca" (see the rush). However, could we limit it to one solo per album, what do you think?

and of course the solo of "Po-Jama People" from this album

Dante, you are truly inexhaustible when it comes to making the rankings on Zappone even more complicated. Anyway, I'll think about it and in a few days I'll make a list for you... definitely the only one mentioned by symbad_bassist is one.

Thank you all for the comments. (I apologize for the late reply, but I haven't been home these days). Regarding Punisher, I only mentioned those who have written at least one review on a Zappone album, otherwise I would have spent three days writing a list of names, so I’m giving the 25,000 euros only to Stràfiko Piezzecore. As for DanteCrucciani, I'm glad you liked it; yes, in "Dub Room Special" (another gem) the gorilla comes in to groom Thompson, as Mandrake says, and I agree with him on the various versions of "Sofa." For Fagen85, I had read that the name 'guitar' Watson was just a reference, but I might be misremembering or have made a mistake.

For the live, I fully agree with Antoniodeste's three points; I have more difficulty with the order, but I can go along with it.

antoniodeste, you’re mistaken. I did mention "Zappa in New York," since it is a masterpiece in the CDs I recommend for Festwca. I agree with the choice of the track, but there are other worthy pieces on that double CD as well.

It was already difficult for me to rank the albums, let alone the songs. I've also sent the review of "One Size Fits All," and I think it should be published soon...

Grasshopper is a sadness that you give 3 stars to zucchero and you only have 4 discs of this genius, rethink your record collection.
