Sonny Rollins The Bridge
Voto:
Saxophone Colossus, congratulations on the review!
Jimmy Smith Softly As A Summer Breeze
Voto:
I miss this too, I have "Midnight Special" and also "The Sermon," a great organist even though I prefer the sound of Larry Young. The review is, as always, good.
Charlie Parker The Complete Dial Sessions
Voto:
@ Stoopid As soon as I have a bit of time and inspiration, I will definitely do it. As for "Bird" by Eastwood, it's a beautiful film; it's not just a film about Parker or jazz, but IT'S A JAZZ FILM (great Clint, and Whitaker is fantastic, as is the actress who plays the wife).
Charlie Parker The Complete Dial Sessions
Voto:
It's the only Parker box set I'm missing (I have both the Savoy and the Verve) and I still rate the album because I know many of the tracks, and the Bird of that era never missed a beat. Congratulations also on the review.
Billy Cobham Crosswinds
Voto:
I only have Spectrum by Cobham (which is worth it anyway), I'll see about looking for this one as well.
Coleman Hawkins & Ben Webster Encounters
Voto:
I don't know, but I don't like these reviews; it's all whiskey soda and cool, I find them definitely uninspired, and what Symbad says is absolutely true.
Joey DeFrancesco Organic Vibes
Voto:
Nice mention (it's also among the albums of the month in the latest musica jazz) I love Bobby Hutcherson, Joy defFrancesco, apart from the name I don't know anything, I will make sure to check it out.
John Coltrane Coltrane for Lovers
Voto:
I know all the tracks because I have all the albums they are from; in fact, they are not even be-bop, let alone cool-bop, this is modal Coltrane. P.S.: if an encyclopedia stated that Coltrane is only be-bop, it would exclude 90% of Coltrane's output, ranging from hard-bop, modal, to free.
Frank Zappa Frank Zappa Meets The Mothers Of Prevention
Voto:
beppe83 if you go to the review of Zappa "Absolutely Free" you will find many comments on the best 10 of the Uncle (there was a sort of referendum)
John Coltrane Coltrane for Lovers
Voto:
I'm not a big fan of compilations (especially when faced with giants like Coltrane), and while this one is no exception, all the tracks are truly beautiful. The review left me with some doubts, such as: "A melancholic and frail record" (melancholic is fine, but what does frail mean?), "...ballads among the best ever heard in the cool-jazz realm" (Coltrane and cool-jazz??? what's that about? it's better to say cool-bop).
