I repeat, there have been attempts (poor Indians -> I agree with you) but history gives reason to the truth. A little but surely.

Sure, as long as one, while growing up, takes a moment to inform themselves, they will arrive at the truth. But can we be sure that everyone has this interest? I don't think so, and that's why I believe many people will live forever in ignorance and in their bigoted but deep-rooted beliefs. Naaahh, even my grandmother knows that Indians are not the bad guys, come on, everyone knows that. Just like everyone knows that the Nazis are the bad guys, Uncle Stalin, Saddam, the Bassotti gang, Sauron.

@Fidia: what you assert in several posts is quite understandable from different aspects, and I mentioned it a bit earlier. It's just that you don't grasp this aspect of the situation <<<Just because we are here discussing it, in my opinion, shows that there isn't this widespread opinion on who is, let’s say colloquially, on the side of the good and who on the side of the bad>>> Exactly! If we are here discussing it, it means we are certainly not victims of an insurmountable coercion mechanism; we all have the clarity to understand and evaluate from situation to situation who is the good and who the bad. Now, I don't know who your mentors were, but I don't remember any textbook that has portrayed the peoples you mentioned entirely in a negative light. I reiterate: over time there have been attempts (and here I agree with you), but the truth has nevertheless remained afloat. The peoples you mention are NOT those historically considered bad. Perhaps you read the wrong comics, who knows...

Oh Sean Connery in a Scottish kilt is a sight to behold! But at carnival?

You speak just like a printed TV Sorrisi e Canzoni... You’d be perfect as a columnist for Tribe Magazine: catchy riffs, good musicians from Oasis, electric blasts. Send your resume to Maledetta Primavera, maybe it’ll get you on Scaruffi's site.

Ouch Fidia, yesterday in my rush I didn’t have a chance to read all your posts, but today, with the necessary calm, I noticed this bridge in your speech that Trell rightly pointed out to you: <<<like those who are historically considered the villains, just because history has been written by the victors, whether they win or, at least, give it to the so-called good, will always have my respect.>>> Referring generally to Palestinians, Scots, Irish, hippos, and Mauritians, etc. etc. Well, no! It’s true that there has always been an attempt, but public opinion has never been overly influenced, and if it had been, we wouldn’t be here discussing it. Carnival masks are a good measure, and if no one has ever dressed as a Scot, it’s simply because it’s a terrible costume. In all the examples you chose to post, it is possible to find both good and rotten on both sides, and 95% of people with an average culture KNOW very well how things went. So in the end, we are ALL aware of who the villains are and who the good ones are (but are there really such clear distinctions?).

I’m quite knowledgeable on the subject; it has always fascinated me. Of course, the tribes varied greatly among themselves in customs, bellicosity, lifestyle… Often, the cruelty expressed in “official documents” tends to highlight only isolated cases. There are really very few Indians who have killed White Faces, just as there are few scalps that fell during the years of the gold rush. But in reality, there have also been very few "serial killer" White Faces with eighteen notches on the handle of their gun...

<<<I don't think it would have been necessary if it were taken for granted by everyone that the Indians have always been the "good ones".>>> I completely agree with everything you say, Fidia. Unfortunately, the Indian vs. Pale Faces narrative has been distorted, not only by history books but also by Western films, comics (Tex is an exception), reviews, articles, and so on. They are always painted as raiders, scalpers, uncivilized... But we know very well that this is not the case (remember the Sand Creek massacre?) Robbed of their lands, confined to often hostile reserves lacking game, they saw the buffalo fall one by one, which for so long had represented their sustenance, slaughtered for "yellow stones." Yes, progress, though...
